2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

It wasn't dirty, it was stupid. There is a difference. It's clear he thought the ball would be caught and he celebrated up until the point he realized what had happened. I realize everyone needs a villian but jebus...
This is a pretty good point. I don't believe a 18 or 19 year old college kid would celebrate deliberately destroying opponent illegally. It was a very stupid play, no doubt, and one that doesn't belong in football, but he's a freshman in college that made a really stupid mistake.

I'll take LSU.

**** Tuscaloosa. **** Portera.
Same pick, same motivation for me.

Apparently there's still a flicker of hope for Charger Hockey. They're trying to put together a group of wealthy contributors to fund 100% of the team's operating budget. Sounds like a long shot. But if they pull it off, maybe it's the offer that can't be refused. Here's to hoping.

Same here, seems like there seems to be bit of a united front developing between UAH over killing off their hockey program and having UAT going after some of UAH's bread and butter academic stuff, and with UAB with UAT pretty much putting the kibosh on UAB building an on campus stadium there. Something is rotten in Tuscaloosa, and its not just the Tide's locker room.

Needless to say, if it came down to it, I wouldn't mind much kicking a little something-something to UAH to help em keep the program going.

Then he kept jawing on the sideline, and yelled and gestured to fans after being ejected, forcing his coach to essentially drag him off the field...

That was a dirty hit. Reminded me of the team (Fresno St maybe?) that used to do that sort of thing all the time as a tactic when it was just a 5-yard penalty for a halo violation rather than an automatic personal foul.

Yeah, I could see him going me bad after it if he had just not seen the fair catch signal. But hell, he laid him out even before the ball got there really. And then acted a fool afterwords when even his momma could see that was uncalled for.

At what point does it make it ok to be hit when you signal for a fair catch.

The whole point of the signal is to NOT get hit, since you knew you would get nailed.

If he had not signaled for a fair catch, you would have a point that it was just a missed timed hit, and his antics were weak.

But it was a fair catch, and even IF the ball got there before the it, it was a dirty hit. If he says he didn't see it, sorry- but that's part of coverage is that you see a fair catch signal. If you miss that, then you are a **** poor coverage guy (even the commentators saw the fair catch signal, all the way from the top of the stadium). That's ignoring the leading with your head and celebration.

NAILING a player who callled for a fair catch is dirty. plain and simple

Sure makes you wonder where all of that Alabama SEC football money is going.... Should be more than enough to help UAB's BB team and UAH's hockey team, or just let them use their own darned money.

He didn't signal for a fair catch in the way that is required because he didn't wave his hand in the air back and forth. I'm just not convinced his intent was dirty.

Not to defend Wade either, as it was a stupid play, but the returner didn't give a true fair catch signal, and he starts running up the field.

I feel like I should chime in..you know, since Iowa had the best farmers in the world..;)

In honor of Hayden Fry, remember, America Needs Farmers. :)

Here's what I heard and saw- kick, announcers making comment, announcers then commenting on fair catch, reciever running up to catch the short kick, and then WHAM.

Again, the announcers at the top of the stadium saw it. How they could see the signal from so far away, and the guy 20 yards away missed that, when it's his JOB to see that, explain that to me in simple words.

I'm not saying his intent was dirty. I don't think it was a plan to go and obliterate the other player. I do think there was a point that he chose to just make a hit, regardless- there was no slow down, or thought of avoidance- which you commonly see in players who are rushing up to a fair catch of a short punt.

At that point it became either completely incompetent or dirty- either way, he should not be on the field. The celebration post that very much indicated the intent to hit, regardless.

Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

The problem with all the videos is that the camera isn't on the returner until too late. Once the camera pans over his left arm is doing some motion, but it could of been the end of the fair catch signal or something else.

But beyond that, the player has a right to catch the ball. Even if he doesn't signal for a fair catch. He was never allowed to catch it, so Wade is still in the wrong from that standpoint.
