2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season

Re: 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season

I'm surprised Letterman didn't make a crack about a hooker special such as paying an extra $50 to get blown at 110 mph. :D

Re: 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season

Posters in the path of Irene: let us hear from you. We're worried.
Approaching midnight here in southern CT with the wind and rain picking up quite a bit in the past hour. The heaviest stuff is supposed to occur between 1 am and 1 pm or so. My only concern at the moment is losing power (especially with well water).

According to all the local news coverage the world is coming to an end! I can understand wanting people to be informed but the level doom and gloom is incredible. I don't need some idiot standing on the beach getting pelted by wind and rain to tell me there's a hurricane coming!

Hope things go as well as they can for you, Mark. I've got a lot of friends from school in the NYC metro area as well who are going to deal with it too.

Re: 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season

Lost power at 6. Wind is picking up big time. I have the police scanner on and the PD and FD are going nuts. Trees and wires down all over the place. At least 2 reports of trees into houses. And we're still a few hours from seeing the eye.

Re: 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season

Raining here but looks like tract is way west of me, less rain, more wind. We won't really get it until this afternoon. I doubt Power stays on, probably internet goes down, I have a Wireless provider and the antenna is pretty high off roof with no guy wires, we'll see:D

Re: 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season

Here in Brick NJ-eye of the storm expected to be over us in a very short time. Has not been too bad up to now and power is still on-although there has been lots of lights flickering.

Update-at 7:30 Jenny and I had the once in a lifetime opportunity to go out and stand in the eye of this storm. Bright blue sky up above and dead calm. Lasted about 45 minutes like that. Now we are back in the rain and wind but not nearly as bad as predicited.

Of course it isn't as bad as predicted. I cancelled my trip to NYC for yesterday.

It's still gusty and raining a bit here. I walked around the neighborhhod. There are a lot of small branches down, but I saw nothing worse than that in the half dozen blocks that I walked. The Potomac isn't particularly high, but that may be to come in a few days.

I did get a bit ****ed when I saw that the Starbucks in the local Safeway wasn't open.

Lost power @ 01:00. Still out and I'm not optimistic about getting it back today.

Re: 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season

My power went out at about 11 here in New Hampshire. I wonder why so early though because we've just had rain, not wind. They say the worst part of the storm will be coming through in between noon and 9pm so there's that.

Only in NYC :D

Re: 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season

Lost power here about 5 minutes ago. Wind picked up considerably in the last hour along with sheets of rain. Ugh.

Re: 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season

Here in Albany area, still have power, but my basement is underwater. Albany County is under a state of emergency, I am stuck in the house all day as all county roads are closed. Water is coming in faster than we can get it out. Sump Pump is overheated, and the portable pump we have crapped out on us.

Re: 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season

Just heavy winds left here in southern CT. Looks like a war zone outside with debris everywhere. I figure we'll be without power at least another 12 hrs, probably more.

Re: 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season

Just got back from Singing Beach in Manchester By the Sea. Normally it has no waves whatsoever. Not today....10-20 foot waves and consistent 40 mph+ winds. And it was low tide.
