2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season

Re: 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season

I grew up in Orono Maine, I could drive down Main st and show you many houses that used to have fall out shelters in them. The reason I have so much food around is I live on a farm, not farming any more(that was when my parents were alive) but I still grow a lot of my own food. What I need is laying hens, need to move the old hen house and I'll have them next spring. Then I can really survive:D

As a kid my Aunt Bea used to dispatch the chickens we were gong to have for dinner with a motion similar to someone cranking a Model-T. It always seemed to work and her chicken was delicious.

Its good you weren't speaking to me as I have enough food to feed myself and family for months if need be, 2 generators, pumps, chain saws, guns, ammo and whatever else I might need to survive for awhile:D.

Bring on the zombies!

Today folks would be aghast at that but someone had to kill the meat one eats. My dad would put 4 chickens in one had and roll them over this huge stump, a dbl bladed axe you could shave with, he could dispatch 4 in secs. Lay them on the ground go get more. It was a brutal job putting 40 or 50 of those babies in the freezer. You weren't too interested in eating chicken for awhile.
Pigs, Lambs, Sheep and Goats weren't any picnic either

Aunt Bea never dealt in numbers that big. And her idiot nephew from Chicago wouldn't be involved if she did. Aunt Bea also had a farm dog, Rusty, who was no more a pet than a rooster is. His job was to kill varmints and raise hell whenever anyone approached the farm. He was very good at his job. Don't even try to pet Rusty.

Speaking of media hype when it comes to weather events, let's not forget this is not a new phenomenon. Here's a famous example. Please note, Matt refers to "severe flooding in the northeast" in his set up. Well, maybe severe somewhere, but not where the bimbo was.

Next thing you know, he'll be telling us how GMC "side saddle" gas tanks are prone to explosions.

Currently the New York State Thurway is kind of messed up. East bound I-90 is closed from the Syracuse area to Schenectady (117 miles). West bound is closed from Schenectady to just east of Utica (Herkimer--61 miles).

New York may need some Federal aid just to replace the tolls being lost!

Katia? That should be the name of an eastern European mail order bride, not a major hurricane. I don't know anything about hurricane forcasting, but my gut feeling is that Katia is going to **** some **** up.

She's the replacement name for Katrina.

It looks like it'll track well to the east of where Irene went and may clobber Bermuda.

This one looks like a classic hook over Bermuda or east of it and then out into the Atlantic.

Our meteorologists can tell us more about the steering currents and how they will affect Katia.

It's WAY too early to say that. There's at least one model out there that has been at least threatening the East Coast. Since any effects are still a good 7-10 days away though, lots can and will change. Remember, last weekend, when Irene was just crossing into the eastern Caribbean, many of the models had the storm going into the Gulf.

When a storm is as far out there as this one is, could it realistically go anywhere? Or has it set a path to this point that you could rule out that its going to gulf, etc? I

As long as it's heading in a general westerly direction, you can't rule anything out. Once it starts to turn more toward the northwest or north, then it's likely a "fish storm".

BTW, many models are indicating that another storm will develop in the Gulf in the coming days, and could be a threat to Texas and/or Louisiana.

Re: 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season

I'm far more concerned about the tropical storm that's going to develop in the Gulf over the next few days. Looks like it could sit stagnant for a day (or two!) over New Orleans. Watch this one carefully. I've been watching this one for a couple days now and most of the models are predicting it now.

Yep I'm keeping a steady eye on it as well since I'm sitting on my tugboat in NOLA right now. had steady 25-35mph winds out of the east today coming down the Mississippi.
