2011-2012 DIII Opinion Poll

Re: 2011-2012 DIII Opinion Poll

1. RIT
2. Norwich
3. River Falls
4. Plattsburgh
5. Gustavus
6. Elmira
7. Middlebury
8. Amherst
9. Bowdoin
10. Adrian

9 and 10 are kinda hard to figure out. My personal opinion lake forest should not be in there, nor should UWSP. I expected Adrian to split with SNC...I don't know.

Tough to make much sense of things this early. I was trying not to exhibit eastern bias and picked 9 and 10 from out west (and I appreciate you including the Polar Bears, although their 3rd period against Plattsburgh was embarassing and it is tough to imagine anyone yielding 5 goals in 6:20 deserving to be ranked until they earn some Ws!!!). It is also difficult to get a true pecking order for the top contenders, although the Classic next weekend will shed more light on that topic.

well i'm gonna bump RF up one this week and Platty down only because of Platty's tie with an unranked team. i'll give Norwich the benefit of the doubt with their loss considering it's to RIT. i'm also going to throw St. Olaf in the mix after seeing their performance against RF on tuesday

Re: 2011-2012 DIII Opinion Poll

Haha, so I just noticed this... I think there's a code amongst the eastern fans to never rank a west team above 6. Not complaining here, just found it ironic that they pretty much ALL have RF at 6 and GAC is either 7 or 8 in all those as well.

Do we really have to go there? Win a FF game and then let's talk. In my poll I have consistently ranked UWRF as the best team in the country not named RIT, Norwich, Midd, Platty and Amherst. Except this week, when I will put Elmira in and remove Platty.

I'm curious...if River Falls beats Amherst when they come out to play...will that count or will it not since it is not a frozen four game. I remember all the excuses last time that happened. They traveled so far...blah blah blah. Amherst was ranked #1 at the time...and got swept out west....and "clearly Amherst wasn't as good as we thought they were." I'm just wondering.

And then Amherst won it all when it counted including smoking Gustavus adolphus on their home ice in the finals.

...you answered your own question...if Amherst wins it is a sign of complete and total dominance...if Amherst loses then it is a sign of "bus legs" and a "non-conference-meaningless-tilt"...but if they TIE!!!!!......we get to debate and debate and posture....(oh please let them tie!). It really is like being for or against the Yankees...there are just so many Yankee fans (read: eastern conference) that they outnumber and outholler and outposture and outspend the other teams (read: western conference) that it is not that they are invincible or the other teams aren't as good or better.....you just ain't going to hear it loud enough or often enough when it happens before the inevitable background noise that is the eastern locomotive chugs back down the track....choo...choo!
