You've got to be effing kidding. Call against h.t. Lenz was maybe worst call by a ref i've ever seen. As if bc doesn't have enough going for them already, the ref has to hand them the game on a silver platter! A 5-minute major for whatever that was (roughing??, boarding??) was absolutely ridiculous, especially since it gave bc a 5 on 3 advantage at a critical point in the game. Even milbury agreed--said he could maybe see a 2 minute penalty, but definitely not a 5-minute major. To me it looked like a hustle play and a clean hit-- not warranting a penalty at all. Heck, even the penalty before that was ticky-tacky at best. Milbury said that one didn't look like much of anything and he would have let it go. Guess the refs wanted to make sure the jewel of hockey east didn't suffer an embarrassing loss.
Sorry for the rant, but before those 2 penalties the cats were right in that game and may have even had the momentum going their way. All that was snatched away in a matter of seconds by some idiots with their heads up their *****. I'm also sorry, but bc gets the benefit of every effing call. The cats will be back and they will inflict serious damage on bc and hockey east!!!
The above post was in all caps, but was changed to all lower-case. Guess USCHO won't let you have a proper rant.
Darn right I''m bitter about what happened last night.Talk about being one bitter, uninformed fan.
Hello, earth to J.D., earth to J.D., why the heck would I mention those? They were legitimate penalties (I don't think anyone would argue with that) which didn't change the outcome of the game. As I said, the "cross-checking" penalty on Brooks Herrington was ticky tack, at best, and shouldn't have been called at all. And then the 5-minute boarding call, which I still maintain was a 2 min. penalty, at best, gives you guys a 5-3 pp at a critical point in the game. You telling me that's the same as calling two minors against Kreider earlier in the game?Don't mention the fact UVM had two PPs before Lenz' idiotic charge/flying elbow.
I don't know, but I wish we could have found out fair and square. UVM was playing well and were right in that game until the refs decided to take things into their own hands. You honestly thought your pathetic excuse of a team was going to win this game?
Agreed. See post #454.Where was Brickley?
And then the 5-minute boarding call, which I still maintain was a 2 min. penalty, at best,
Yup, never stopped drinking. Only way I can deal with what happened.Still drunk this morning?
The refs were aleady tired of listening to Lenz yapping after the 1st period. His 'contact to the head' made it an easy call.
Milbury is looking for a job. He's been trying to attract attention with 'the old days of physical play' theme.
Unfortunately it wasnt much of a game from a spectator's standpoint from that penalty on.
By the way,why dont Americans sing their National anthem when its played?
I'll have to disagree with you agreeing with JD.I have to agree with vstar and JD on this one. Regardless of the debate of a 5 or 2 minute penalty, the timing (on the PK) was the big issue for me. Mr. Lenz continues to demonstrate his lack of discipline and sense of game timing. I appreciate his competitiveness and drive but this is the 3-4th time he has taken a irresponsible, selfish, and ill timed penalty that has knocked the team off track during a game. I can understand doing it once but not 3-4 times (remember head butt vs Maine, slash vs Providence) There is a time and place when you show that energy to get your team going when they are not playing well. At that point in the game, Vermont was playing very well and the game looked like it was gonna be a tight grind it out game. If Sneddon alows that conduct to continue from a captain, then he should expect more of the same.
UVM already has enough players who fit into the latter category.
I'll have to disagree with you agreeing with JD.I still think it could easily have been a no-call and, at best, warranted only a 2-minute penalty.
You (and Kevin) are probably right. "Listless" might have been a bit harsh. You know, as long as I'm revising my own views, I think I'll take back something else I said about the team last week, which is that I don't see them being much of a factor next season. I do think the guys are working hard, the young players are getting a ton of valuable experience, and despite everything that's happened this season, they've still been in most every game. With the new guys coming in next season, they could easily be a team that contends for home ice. I'm especially excited about Hoffman. For some reason (I don't know--it's not like I have inside information), I think he's really going to be a stud in goal.If you listen to Kevin during his weekly show, this is not happening at all, but I think with the way the season has gone, it is pretty much expected from time to time.
All right, I must confess, I haven't seen a slo-mo replay that I actually remember. When the replays were being shown, I was busy retrieving my remote from the living room sheet-rock.Well, if he didn't charge Almeida, leave his feet, and then launch his elbow into Almeida's temple, yea, it could have been no call...
All right, I must confess, I haven't seen a slo-mo replay that I actually remember. When the replays were being shown, I was busy retrieving my remote from the living room sheet-rock.Did it really go down like that? I didn't think he charged Almeida at all. As best I can recollect, Lenz was skating hard down the near side of the ice, he then circled through the center of the ice and as he got closer to the far boards, there was Almeida right in front of him. When he saw him there he laid the big hit on him. It didn't seem like he had Almeida lined up and made a conscious decision to go at him at all--it was more of a "bang, bang" kind of play.
Do you know of a reply anywhere on the web? I always get a kick out of your posts Nick. You're about the only BC fan who could make me reconsider my thoughts on the play.
Well, if he didn't charge Almeida, leave his feet, and then launch his elbow into Almeida's temple, yea, it could have been no call...
Given your lack of knowledge of the rules and/or bad eyesight, are you a former or current HE referee? Maybe you applied to be one and failed the drug test?![]()
