2011-12 Vermont Season Thread (Vezina & Conn Smyth trophy edition)

Re: 2011-12 Vermont Season Thread (Vezina & Conn Smyth trophy edition)

Agreed, thanks for the link MSL Fan. It's funny, I've always sort of taken the goalie position at UVM for granted. We've almost always had someone in net who was good--Tom Draper, Tim Thomas, Christian Soucy, Joe Fallon, Rob Madore (his first two seasons), etc. What a difference it makes when your goalies are floundering. I think Brody Hoffman will be good. Still, we need one more good goalie recruit!

We definitely are spoiled! Let's hope Brody adds to the legacy of good goalies! Hate to say it, but I think Alex's future has pretty much been determined. How many times do you see a third string goalie actually recruited that heavily ?

This game from BC's point of view has trap written all over it. They just smoked NU 7-1 in the Beanpot
and have another of the annual Beanpot finals versus BU on Monday, a game the town and schools seem
to take more seriously than the HE final 4.

A game versus the last place team might be a good time for an upset if Vermont can come out early and
get ahead before BC gets totally into the game. I know York wont be overlooking Vermont but 18-22 year
olds can be told one thing but ego tells them another. Just remember the 3rd period vs Lowell.

You've got to be effing kidding. Call against h.t. Lenz was maybe worst call by a ref i've ever seen. As if bc doesn't have enough going for them already, the ref has to hand them the game on a silver platter! A 5-minute major for whatever that was (roughing??, boarding??) was absolutely ridiculous, especially since it gave bc a 5 on 3 advantage at a critical point in the game. Even milbury agreed--said he could maybe see a 2 minute penalty, but definitely not a 5-minute major. To me it looked like a hustle play and a clean hit-- not warranting a penalty at all. Heck, even the penalty before that was ticky-tacky at best. Milbury said that one didn't look like much of anything and he would have let it go. Guess the refs wanted to make sure the jewel of hockey east didn't suffer an embarrassing loss.

Sorry for the rant, but before those 2 penalties the cats were right in that game and may have even had the momentum going their way. All that was snatched away in a matter of seconds by some idiots with their heads up their *****. I'm also sorry, but bc gets the benefit of every effing call. The cats will be back and they will inflict serious damage on bc and hockey east!!!

The above post was in all caps, but was changed to all lower-case. Guess USCHO won't let you have a proper rant.

You can't leave your feet and charge at someone's head. It's a 5 in the NHL and its a 5 in college. By the way, if you want to see the worst call ever, take a look at the last call against Whitney. That UVM kid dove big time and they called a major. You should take your rant back. It looks really stupid right now.

Gee, thanks for the advice Kenny, but I think I'll leave my rant right where it is. Like I said, just disappointed the web site wouldn't let me post it in all caps like I'd intended. If it was so clearly a 5-minute penalty, why'd your homey Milbury not think it was?

Check out the BC thread, Millbury is a donkey. Kerry Fraser, the veteran NHL ref, called it "clearly the right call" between periods. "Direct hit to the head". It was not from behind, it was direct to the head. They call that all day long in every league. I realize your upset, but be objective.

Didn't see Kerry Fraser between periods because the TV was off by then. It's been long frustrating season--Cats were playing reasonably well tonight and, like I said, actually had some momentum before the penalties. All that went up in a puff of smoke in a matter of seconds--Poof, back to getting hammered just like every other game this season.

And where the heck was Connor Brickley tonight. Is he still rehabbing so he'll be ready for next year's World Juniors?

Good call all the way around here. And, please only speak for BU. BC fans have perspective when it comes to the Beanpot.

Talk about being one bitter, uninformed fan. Don't mention the fact UVM had two PPs before Lenz' idiotic charge/flying elbow. BC is the 6th most penalized team in HE. Your team is the 8th. But ya, BC gets every call. Idiot. You honestly thought your pathetic excuse of a team was going to win this game? And that the officials handed the game to BC? Your anger should be towards your moronic captain. I'm glad you put three exclamation points at the end of your last sentence, because nobody would ever take that seriously.

I agree!!! I am so sick of college reffinf this year! I mean come on!! These BC ******* have clearly never played the game? Number one he barely left his feet and beyond that it was a clean hit. I'll give you 2 minutes for coming off the ice at best. ****ing resiculous!!

It was a charge and a flying elbow...yep, perfectly legal.

J.D. Lets be realistic, both major penalties tonight should have been minors.

Not sure who the UVM player was, but he should have been called for embellishment. I heard the in-studio announcers saying the Lentz hit was a no-brainer...easy major call.

Re: 2011-12 Vermont Season Thread (Vezina & Conn Smyth trophy edition)

Where was Brickley? This team is devestated by injuries and horrible goaltending and they need every capable body and not having he and McCarthy is brutal.

I see no reason why UVM will not be much better next year if they have goaltending and fewer injuries to top players. Yeah probably not home ice good but back in the middle of the pack at least with Stalberg, McCarthy, Brickely, Reynolds, Markinson, Girgensons leading them. They will at least have two dangerous lines instead of one AND more depth. But it all revolves around goaltending. They can outplay a team this year and lose by 4 with a save % in mid .800's. That cannot continue
