2011-12 Vermont Season Thread (Vezina & Conn Smyth trophy edition)

Re: 2011-12 Vermont Season Thread (Vezina & Conn Smyth trophy edition)

Well, thank goodness that is over. It played out even worse than I imagined when I spouted off negatively about "no problems getting out of the parking garage this season" after the very ugly first game exhibition loss to the U18 team.

I do have high hopes for 2012/13. First step is getting everyone back that is supposed to be back. Second step is a strong summer of conditioning and weight training. Third step is goaltending. This past season was the worst I have seen in nearly 20 years of being a fan. By a long shot. hopefully having three legitimate goalies we will end up with one who is dominant or a very strong rotation. My money is on the Brody kid.

fourth step is a new attitude that we will not only put forth 100% effort but we expect to win every game.

fifth step is Girgensons arriving on campus. He is not a saviour but we don't need one, we need depth.

Every year I think we are going to be deeper offensively and we are not. Next year, assuming no decimating injuries again, we should have depth with:

stalburg, Reynolds, Brickley, McCarthy, Girgensons, Markison, Montagna, Girgensons, Anthione, Fallon

Arguably we have three legitimate forward lines that can score next year

see you in around 7 months. And next season we want a lot of snow also.

HE is a better place with a good UVM team. Hope things improve for you folks

Re: 2011-12 Vermont Season Thread (Vezina & Conn Smyth trophy edition)

strong summer of conditioning and weight training.

If they follow Brickley's program, they will be fine. He was noticeably bigger and stronger the very first time he stepped on the ice this year. Hopefully they have a great strength and conditioning coach in place to lead in the off season!

Re: 2011-12 Vermont Season Thread (Vezina & Conn Smyth trophy edition)

It just reminds us that just because this season was bleak, the program as a whole has had some amazing players, and has some very good success! The bad years make the good seasons just that much sweeter!

Sorry for the intrusion, but in my opinion, this was the biggest problem for this team this year! The current strength and conditioning coach has no clue or experience working with hockey players, and it showed! This position is too valuable to UVM athletics, considering the number of injuries the men's hockey team had at various points of the season.

Re: 2011-12 Vermont Season Thread (Vezina & Conn Smyth trophy edition)

I agree 100% Paul Goodman set the tone for strength and conditioning being a pillar of Catamount Hockey.
You have to wonder why this disappeared so quickly. Top conditioning prevent injuries, something that plagued the Cats all season long. So when people want to point fingers for the dismal season, I think you need have to consider the strength and conditioning program.. I sure have hope for next season. Just think what Reynolds will be like with 10 more lbs of muscle!

He might be a possible first rounder but hes not twins is he?

Now there's a name I haven't heard in a while. Great UVM player! MSL Fan, you are the man for keeping us up-to-date on UVM hockey alums! Keep em coming, it's gonna be a long 7 months.

Agreed. That last paragraph does not bode well though for recruiting in Quebec. Sounds like they must offer more education opportunities now in the Quebec Juniors.

He does not have a life. A couple of weeks ago I chimed in as "JimV" and told him to stop posting because he doesn't know what the eff he's talking about.

Yes, very cool. I watched the B-Ball game. Hope they can win one at the Big Dance! Two would be incredible....

Re: 2011-12 Vermont Season Thread (Vezina & Conn Smyth trophy edition)

so when do they fire Sneddon and the entire coaching staff? Or when does he do the right thing and step down? In college sports, complete season failures can be placed on the recruiting and coaching staff.. it's time to shake things up a little, bring in an established coach that can draw some more solid recruits
