2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

I don't often say nice things about the gophers.:) But I was glad to see your seniors taking possession of the MacNaughton, not avoiding it like the plague like the hostile and abusives did last year.

I can't remember what year it was, but the Gophers have done that before. In Lucia's postgame interview he called them out on it saying he thought it was stupid. Something to the effect of "You don't know how often you will be able to celebrate something this special, take advantage of it when you get the chance."

I agree with Lucia and I'm glad the Gophers did celebrate with the cup, enjoy the thing.

How many times does a team that avoids the cup go on to win a NC anyway... it's stupid.

Congrats to the Gophers on a great season. Can't remember the last time a team lead from start to finish.

And you have one other thing going in your favor heading into the NCAA's.

DU swept the the Gophers in 2002-03 and the Badgers in 2005-06 and both teams won National Championships. :D
corrected gophers championship year--'04 belonged to DU

Thanks.

I thought last year I watched both UMD-Bemidji State and CC-UAA on 1 ticket... hmm.
You did. I don't think many people liked it. Thankfully, Fridays games were on separate tickets.

Saw this Don Lucia WCCO Interview posted over on GPL. Don says there is a "good chance" Bjugstad comes back next year. He also talks about our incoming recruiting class for next season. Good interview.

Would be huge if he did, that first line could stay intact.

I refuse to get my hopes up for that. I think the Panthers are going to gun for him pretty hard.

It would be a nice early Christmas present, I agree. Not getting my hopes up, but now at least there's a 1 in 500,000 chance, instead of 1 in a million. ;)

Keep in mind, they also have some other offensive prospects in their system that are older and as gifted as Bjugstad. I can see this going either way. I do know Nick's family has expressed their desire that he return.

I guess I'm with you. Prepare as if he is going to leave, but be very pleasantly surprised if he returns.

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

I do know that both Nick's dad and his uncle Scott think that he should stay, but the decision is his alone.

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

It's going to be an interesting offseason. They're going to be overloaded on defense. I'm wondering if Helgeson will get signed. Sometimes the NHL teams don't like to wait till the senior year and he's a big strong kid.

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

Read that Schmidt didn't touch the Cup. Will that jinx just him now?

This is where I come down on this. I'm not certain where Florida is on prospects, but it seems to me that Bjugs is going to be someone they're going to try to get him signed as soon as they can. I certainly hope he'll stick around for another year, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

This is the biggest item I can think of in favor of him staying. Everything I've heard seems to indicate that not only does he respect his dad's opinions, but that there's a great deal of respect for his uncle as well (very understandable, given Scott's history)

Got my fingers crossed, but I'm sure not going to hold my breath.

Pretty much were I stand too. At least there is hope, where before I had none :)

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

Man, this team is maddening.

Some nights they could beat the Red Wings.

Other nights they couldn't beat a Red Wing bantam team.

Inconsistency like this is doomed to failure in the post season.

I guess on the bright side, if they do manage to make it to Tampa, they won't have to play on a Friday.

Why does this team need it's collective arse kicked to get their attention?
