Wasn't Oates already an assistant somewhere?
Last year in Tampa. He was dumped out with the regime change. Scuttlebut around NJ is that Scott Stevens and Oates are friends and Stevens recommended him to Lou and MacLean.
Or he could come home to Michigan for cheap.![]()
It's worth it. Twenties come and go but a picture of you with the Cup (especially if they're letting people drink out of it) is forever.Hrm... A local bar will have the Stanley Cup on display tonight from 10:30 - Midnight... It's $20 to see it and get a pic taken with it... Might just have to give in to the steep price and check it out...
The Savard trade talks seem to have settled down a bit. I blame the Toronto media.
That's right. Blame Canada.
The Oilers are ready to cut ties with their captain.
On Tuesday, Ethan Moreau was one of three players put on waivers by the Oilers. They also waived Patrick O'Sullivan and Robert Nilsson.
Moreau, 34, had been with the Oilers since being acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks midway through the 1998-99 season.
He was named team captain prior to the 2007-2008 campaign, replacing the departed Jason Smith.
Last season, the native of Huntsville, Ont., had nine goals and nine assists with the Oilers.
Moreau had one year left on his contract with the Oilers. If he is not claimed by another NHL team by noon on Wednesday it's likely he'll be bought out by the club.
Ales Kotalik cleared waivers this morning, leaving his fate as a Calgary Flame in GM Darryl Sutter's hands.
Sutter has never bought out a player, but the underachieving winger could be the first if he chooses by tomorrow afternoon to cut the 31-year-old Czech a $4 million cheque -- a $1-million cap hit in each of the next four seasons.
The deal ends popular speculation that the Canadiens would happily trade Sergei Kostitsyn for a dog – and shoot the dog.

Not so fast, junior.
The Bruins are taking their PR notes from the Red Sox in how to throw someone under the bus and out of town.

This has the distinct feel of a Neely power play with an assist from Harry Sinden, who is already on record as not being head of the Savard Fan Club.
The talk about his teammates not liking him has been around for years, though. I don't know if it dogged him before he came to Boston, but it's been rumored in this area pretty much since he started playing here.
He bounced from the Rangers to the Flames to the Thrashers then on to Boston. Talented guys don't generally bounce that much unless there's something else going on. I think Gasper is hearing stuff from someone who knows what's going on inside the room and he's looking to make a splash with that info.
Again, it's not much of a splash, especially anywhere he's played (where there's valid hockey coverage).
Gasper does point out, though, that the Bruins have a glut of forwards, and Savard might just be the one to move, as he is a great value (talented, but not a huge cap hit). If they can move him and get something good in return (I'm thinking a defenseman), then that's great. If they're not going to get a good return, I hope they suck it up and just find a place for him (Seguin to the wing for a bit?). The Bruins would be smart to downplay their dislike of his "game", though.
