2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

:(

I don't understand why teams aren't willing to trade for an over 35 year old goalie who lost his starting job to a rookie last season, is just coming off hip surgery and makes $5 million for the next couple of years. Why aren't teams lining up for that?!

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

Rumors going crazy that Marc Savard could be dealt today. Weird, I don't know how I feel about that. I love Savard for his creativity but at points he can be frustrating to watch. But I just dont get why the Bruins would trade him unless they clear some cap room and 100% know they can get a solid replacement in the FA market.

The stupidest part of the whole thing is that Chiarelli hurries and signs him because he misreads the CBA and thinks if he signs before he turns 35, it's not a 35+ contract when it's actually what the guys age is when the contract starts June 30th of that year.

Two months later, the Flyers do the exact same thing with Chris Pronger, and now pray every night that the world's biggest ****** doesn't tweak his knee before he turns 43.

Why the heck would you trade a PPG player with a 4 million cap hit and keep Bergeron, who's a year away from UFA and making at least 5 million, probably 6 after this year at 4.75?

Edit: You'll also have to resign Chara next year.

Savard has always been thought of a selfish player...questions about his character have hounded him throughout his career. Throwing Sobotka under the bus for the line change up foul up didn't help that perception.

The Bruins are dealing from a position of strength at C - Savard, Krejci, Bergeron, Seguin, and Colborne (who I don't see making Boston this year). That's a bit of a logjam, so perhaps they're trying to address an area of weakness from one of strength.

From a pure on-ice perspective, I'm not sure Savard is the one I'd deal. He is the only one who is going to put up 80 points without question. Krejci, coming off injury or not, regressed last year (though I do think he'll be back to form). Bergeron put up 50 points all year.

Should be an interetsing day.

Well, that reasoning was suggested by a Mr. Kevin Paul Dupont, who may be the laziest hockey writer in existence. To put it in perspective, he was the only one on Earf who thought the Joe Thornton trade was a steal for Boston. I take anything he says with a salt mine.

Also, I think there's zero chance Savard gets traded. It doesn't make sense to sign a guy to a very cap-friendly 7 year contract, then trade him 6 months later. But then again, this is the Bruins we're talking aboot.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

For being a good, solid team, the Bruins are a relative mess right now IMO. Is Neely now calling the shots? Is he the one who wants to trade Savard?

The Bruins have a lot of good pieces, but haven't been able to put the puzzle together just yet. If they are somehow able to trade Thomas, I'd imagine they'd have to take back a player not wanted by the other team. Maybe not equal to Thomas' cap hit, but say around $3 million. If you can't trade him, the cap hit for Rask + Thomas will actually be less than it was this past year. I wouldn't mind that at all.

To me, with the drafting of Seguin tonight, they still need a top four dman first and foremost.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

And unless something is going on behind the scenes, I don't like the idea of trading Savard. For all the talk about him being selfish, soft, etc....he's been a pretty good playoff performer for the Bruins

Well, he already <strike>sits</strike> plays for the Bruins...

Trading Savard would not be a good move, which is why I expect it to happen. The only question is how many threads will be started if/when it happens? :D

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

Is Neely now calling the shots?
This is actually a good question, and something that's been in the back of my mind since he became team president. Is he letting Chiarelli make the decisions, or is he dictating Chiarelli's moves? This leads me to the bigger question: are Neely's decisions even his own? Sinden is still involved; could he still be pulling the strings, and using Neely as the public image of the franchise, since he knows that Cam is beloved in Boston?

New faces in the front office, but has anything really changed?

I don't think trading Savard would be smart right now.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

I don't think Sinden has any real position at all anymore, does he? He's listed as "Senior Adviser to the Owner", but I vaguely recall hearing that it was a gift, do-nothing, "sunset" job. You know, like one of those that Bill Bulger filled with his brother's mobster friends. Definitely an open question on Neely.

As to Savard, I wonder how much of it is the Bruins getting calls on Savard after hearing some rumor, and the Bruins, not actively shopping him?

I think it's because he sucks.

I figured the sarcasm in that post would be self evident.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

Thomas won the Vezina and then had a .915 SP last year. You might not like him or his style, but he doesn't suck.

His contract on the other hand...that sucks.

I don't think Sinden has any say in what's going on here. To me, it's all about Neely/Chiarelli. I believe Chiarelli is still calling the shots in the end, but if Neely doesn't like how things are going, he can pull the plug on Chia pet.

On Sinden: it's possible. I don't really know one way or the other. It just seems like he's still there, still whispering in people's ears, etc. And, it just gives me a bad feeling.

On Savard: the way it's being reported, the B's are shopping Savard, not the other way around. Could just be journalists reading too much into rumors.

As long as the stench of Jacobs/Sinden still lingers, we're simply not going to see a Bruins Stanley Cup. :(

And are you suggesting that sports media people are blowing things out of proportion?! Be still your tongue!

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

The rumor I heard last night is that Savard will only waive his NTC for three teams. Toronto, Ottawa, or Detroit.

Really not surprising if true as he's from Ottawa.

We don't need to worry about Sinden. People need to forget about the past in that the Bruins spend to the cap. It's spending properly that they just haven't mastered yet.

Yeah, it pretty clearly was, I was just piling on. :p

I don't care if he won the Vezina, he sucks. He has always sucked and he will always suck. (This is probably only 35% objective, 65% objective, so your "facts" have no effect on me. :D)
