Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

I tried to make sense of this deal, but I couldn't. Byfuglien for Reasoner kinda sorta works, but a decent prospect + what could be decent picks for an agitator, an aging defenseman, and a scrub? Atlanta got hosed.

Here's a shot at making sense of it ...

Atlanta gets 3 regulars who can contribute immediately. All are "hard nosed", so if that's what their locker room needs, or your on-ice presence needs, that's what you're getting.

And all Atlanta has to give up is a 4th liner, a rookie (formerly 7th round pick), a nearly-second-round pick, a nearly-third round pick, and a prospect whose value is probably at maximum.

Looks like a pretty good deal for Atlanta. I would think I've improved my club.

And, a pretty good one for Chicago, who has to ditch salaries - and what they can get back is draft picks and inexpensive "depth players".

Isn't Marty Reasoner basically a career 4th line scrub? His career high in points is 31...and that was almost 10 years ago. Looks more like a big salary dump for the Hawks (who got very little in return).

Or basically what Farse Poobah said. Atlanta got some good/decent players and Chicago cleaned up their books.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

Holy Sh**. The one day I'm no where near the internet, and the Thrash go and pull this. Dudley did some favors for his old employer.

To CHI:
Reasoner - Filled the third/fourth line out decently. A good center who did what they needed him to.
Joey Crabb (UFA) - A solid AHL player who easily could fill in on a third/fourth line in the N and get some extra minutes on the PK. Definitely going to be missed by the Wolves. I can see him resigning a two way deal for cheap just to stay in the area.
Morin - A prospect that EVERYONE seemed to be looking forward to playing with the Wolves. Not sure how he'll pan out.

To ATL:
Byfuglien - A cheaper, younger Tomas Holmstrom. I definitely like ATL acquiring him. It's a shame Kane rubbed off on him and he's not the greatest two-way player. Philly-ATL games just got a whole lot more interesting.
Sopel & Eager - Third/fourth liners for the 'Hawks that will likely make the second line (maybe even see a few games at first line minutes) with ATL. For what ATL gave up to get them, it's a draw for now.
Aliu - Really? This a**clown? F* you Rick Dudley.

To SJS:
Sterling (UFA) - The modern day Darren Haydar; A career AHL'er. I can see him resigning just because the team is close to home. IF SJS gives him a contract.
Vernace (UFA) - Good decent kid who played solid defense (nothing spectacular, but it worked). Another one I can see resigning with SJS if they offer a fair deal.

If Sterling and Vernace resign, Worcester is going to have some good players next year...

What it basically broke down as was:
- Eager + Aliu for Crabb + pick.
- Byfuglien + Eager for Reasoner + Morin + higher pick
- Rights to Vernace and Sterling for first round of beers when the Thrash travel to HP Pavilion this fall.
- Dudley pulled some favors for his former employer and single-handedly beats Waddell for the new USCHO Mike Milbury award.

I can think of several Badger alums that are very happy with these trades.

The Blackhawks have a lot of talent that is not-quite yet ready for a regular shift in the NHL on a third or fourth line basis. Okay, maybe not a LOT, but more than enough to fill the holes they're creating with these trades.

I assume you expect to see Burish and Skille in the lineup? Burish is UFA

And Skille hasn't been that impressive in Rockford. Unless he's just one of those guys who plays better in the N, he's probably trade bait.

Sharks re-sign Patrick Marleau and RFA Joe Pavelski. Marleau gets four years at $6.9 million per year. Pavelski will get 4 years at $4 million a year.

$4 million a year for Pavelski? Seems like a steal.

Cap hit a touch high for Marleau, Wilson couldn't get it down to 6? Lame.

Pavs at 4 will hopefully help keep Seto down though.

Last I had checked (admittedly, it was very early in the season), he was doing well in Rockford and his development was going well. But, I suppose there's a reason, besides contracts, that kept them from calling him up later in the season.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

Sharks have 12.25M in cap space now, with 14 players under contract. In good dhape, IMHO.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

I'm sure the Sharks are pleasantly surprised at how little they had to spend on Pavelski. LeBrun made a note that Ryan Kesler had $5 mil for 6 years, and that San Jose was worried about having to do something similar.

that is an interesting spin. wrong, but interesting. the dynamics of the trade aging contributors for prospects is a trade a contender makes at a deadline. not a trade a rebuilding team makes unless its run by glenn sather.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

They slightly overpaid for Marleau considering his up-and-down playoff efforts, but I guess it's OK.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

Boychuk resigned, 2yrs/3.5M total.

Edit: Link.
I like it a lot. I'm real high on him. Probably too high, but whatever. And no NTC!!!

Also, is it safe to assume San Jose is going to go cheap with a goalie now? Not a tremendous amount of room left if they had any intention of signing or trading for a high-cost guy. I guess that fleeting idea that the Bruins could be rid of Tim Thomas and his anchor of a contract is... um... even more fleeting.

I'm high on Boychuk so I think it's a good deal for Boston. As for the NTC, what kind of world do we live in when a guy with 56 games played in the NHL deserves any sort of no movement clause??

As for the Sharks...Chris Mason would be an excellent fit. Plenty of options though.

My thoughts exactly. The Bruins ended the season horribly but they've made some nice moves to correct their mistakes.
