St. Louis do the Phils a huge favor tonight by crushing the Braves 11-4. The Phils now have a full game lead in the NL East, and Atlanta used up their game in hand. All in all a good night as we head to NYC to take on the Mutts.

Nice win for the Phils today as they get a complete game 4 hit shut out from Oswalt. The offense has gone back to anemic, however, as for the second straight day they managed only 3 runs.

Phils have a half game lead, as the Braves play tonight.

Nice win for the Phils today as they get a complete game 4 hit shut out from Oswalt. The offense has gone back to anemic, however, as for the second straight day they managed only 3 runs.

Phils have a half game lead, as the Braves play tonight.

The offense had a lot more trouble getting 3 runs when it was anemic. Scoring more than zero runs in Citi Field is a good thing this year.

Tonight they face Miller who they tagged for 7 runs last start, but Rollins may be out a bit longer, back in Philly for an MRI...

The offense had a lot more trouble getting 3 runs when it was anemic. Scoring more than zero runs in Citi Field is a good thing this year.

Tonight they face Miller who they tagged for 7 runs last start, but Rollins may be out a bit longer, back in Philly for an MRI...

Phils lay a beating on the Marlins 11-4. Nice night for Blanton as he goes 6 and gives up only one run. He's really pitched well the past 6 weeks or so, and he's getting a ton of run support too. Braves win too so it's still a one game lead.

If Cole Hamels manages to do better than 1 ER in 7 IP tonight (who knows, he's on a scoreless innings streak), our top 3 would all have sub-3.00 ERAs.

He lost the scoreless innings streak, but has only given up one run in five innings pitched so far. The offense is doing it's usual stellar work behind him, having scored 2 runs thus far .

Thankfully the Nats are punching the Braves in the head right now, leading 5-0 in the top of the 8th.

Phils lead with 2 out and one on in the bottom of the seventh, 2-1.

Braves are batting in the bottom of the ninth down 6-0 to Washington.

Jayson Werth is a sparkling 1 for 43 with RISP and 2 outs this year . He had a chance to drive in an insurance run to help out Lidge and goes down swinging. They are actually walking Howard to get to Werth now. Cholly needs to adjust the lineup, and maybe put Chooch behind Howard.

3 up, 3 down for Lidge as he ties Tug McGraw on the all time Phillies saves leaders list with 94. With the win the Phils go 2 games up on the Braves for the first time since May.

After a shaky first inning where he gave up 3 hits and a run, Hamels was pretty much unhittable the rest of the way.

Kendrick will miss his next start and the Phils will have Hamels, Halladay and Oswalt start the three games against the Braves next week. Those will be the three starters for the Phils in their last series against the Braves to end the year.

I think Charlie Manuel should be allowed to public behead Howard Eskin and take batting practice with it.

For all the grief Charlie got over the early part of his tenure in Philly...he has done a better job than any manager in baseball in recent years - in my opinion.

Seriously, that was spectacular after it looked like he might not have the control he relies on early.

They beat Florida 10-5 tonight. The Braves lost 4-2 to the Nats this afternoon. The Phils lead is now 3 games.

Phillies play three against the Nationals starting Friday, and then the Braves come to Philly to play three. I will be in the stands for Sunday's game against the Nats and Monday and Tuesday's games against the Braves . Think I'm excited?

I'm guessing a little excited. Nothing you can't control.

Things are starting to break the right way. We can really put a crimp in the Braves chances over the next 6 games. It starts Friday. Fightin's need to come out loaded for bear and live up to their nickname this weekend. No taking anyone lightly or looking ahead to the game on Monday. We can see clear enough from their last series how much damage Washington can do. Taking 2 of 3 from the Braves -- and in Atlanta no less -- should be all the proof Philly needs to be ready.

Just remember when you get to Genos, don't let them know you came from out of the country. They get a little wired about that sort of thing over there, but then again, most of their vitriol is aimed at people coming from places a little south of Canada.
