2010 Philadelphia Phillies - Going for the Threepeat...of NL championships that is

Re: 2010 Philadelphia Phillies - Going for the Threepeat...of NL championships that is

Nice to be 7-1 but the Phils' opponents so far are some pretty bad baseball teams - Houston and Washington.

Will be interesting to see how they do with J-Ro on the shelf for a while.

Halladay is going to be very good against National League hitters.

Well you mention that the two teams the Phillies played were bad, but then say Halladay is going to be amazing against the NL.

He is going to be, but lets take his performances with a grain of salt, both of the previous teams suck,

Any tips or ways to get cheap tickets? I may come out for a Twins/Phillies game in June.

I don't know of any way to get cheap tickets now. I can speak with experience that there is a decent view from even the cheapest seats in the highest sections along either the left or right-field lines. I have watched from one end to the other in the 300 level seats, and once from the 400 level seats in deep left field and I found the view just fine. I can't speak about the second level under the scoreboard, haven't watched from there yet. I would warn you away from standing room only tickets, and that looks like the only option from the phils site for many of their games in the summer by now. They let you stand on any level behind any of the seats, no restrictions on sections or anything, so at first it seems like a good deal. But your view is limited once people began to stand in their seats, which seems to be constant. The only place it works is behind the bullpens, which are in left to left center field. You're pretty far away, and the view of the infield is probably as bad there as any place in the park, but at least you can see. But don't leave once you get there an hour or so before a game, or your place will be taken.

Good to know...I guess I should mention my friend's in a wheelchair. I guess that makes things entirely different.

Yes it does. You should have mentioned that. Much easier to get tickets to any sporting event with a disabled friend.

Contact the Phillies, Mets, and Yankees directly and ask about disabled seating.

Dude leave their thread alone. No need to troll.

Spend that energy on finding a way to get the Wilpons to sell the Mets.

Looks like you guys have lost one of your legends as well.

MLB Radio is reporting that Robin Roberts has died at 83.

Was really hoping the addition of Halladay would help to alleviate some of the interleague woes. Another poor interleague series. Its only three games, but man if this team won against AL teams at the same clip as the did against the NL, they'd win divisions by 15 games... The Redsox really had them befuttled the last two days.

It's hard to face Wakefield once every 2 years.

The Rays and Yanks may have him figured out, for the most part, but they get tons of practice. Not sure where Matsuzaka's game came from. Looked like he pulled it out of his arse. Not that any Bosox fan will complain...

Halladay's latest start ended up a little better than his last one! Jim Bunning threw the NLs first perfect game in the modern era and now another Phillie pitcher throws the latest. Every time one of these happens, I marvel at the fact I saw one in person, Tom Browning's against Los Angeles in 1988.

Re: 2010 Philadelphia Phillies - Going for the Threepeat...of NL championships that is

I'll have to admit one of the reasons I hate interleague play is because of the Phils repeated failings in it. Simply awful. The two series against Boston have been pretty sad to watch.

In fact, right now just about all the games have been sad to watch. Hard to believe a team this talented is playing this poorly for this long. So many bad at-bats. So many pitchers yacking it up on the mound. When a starter has a good outing, it seems like a relief pitcher comes in and promptly gives up a run or two to snuff out any hope for a late comeback. It seems like its been weeks since there was more than one hitter a game seeing the ball well.

No easy fixes here, since it seems there's more that is broken than what is working. Who knows, getting Rollins back (hopefully by the coming weekend) might wake up the offense. That'll be the next thing to look for.

Re: 2010 Philadelphia Phillies - Going for the Threepeat...of NL championships that is

C'mon folks, don't make me come out with the taser...:D Let's go Phils! Hey, Lee didn't end up on either NY team. That's gotta make us happy!

The last two nights have been both fun, and a little hard to watch. Blanton just can't seem to avoid the big innings in too many starts and we need him to be the consistent starter he was last year. And I know 2008 spoiled us with Lidge for a long time to come, but until he has 2 or 3 straight dominant appearances, I'll be nervous anytime he comes in in a save situation and just a one run lead. He just puts too many guys on base and when he does, he rarely seems to get out of it.

Reds are a high powered team and you gotta outscore them to win, so it is nice to see the Phils keep plugging until they got it done. A little of the swagger of the last three seasons, where this team has embodied the "it's not over 'til it's over" spirit as well as any major league team in a while, seems to be bubbling up, if for just a couple of nights. I watched the game last night on Reds TV and the play-by-play guy was priceless on his "call" of Howard's winner. Nothing but stunned silence from the crack of the bat until after Howard crossed the plate.

Now we have Halladay going and a good chance for a series win. Of all the remarkable things about Roy Halladay perhaps my favorite is the fact he has the decision in 17 of his 18 starts. Sure, I'd like more than 10 wins in that scenario (especially hoped for more than a 1-3 mark against the AL), but I think we may be seeing in him and other starters a nod to the old school of pitching. More and more managers are leaving guys in to eat up 7, 8 and 9 innings unless the need for a pinch-hitter dictates taking someone out. Probably helped the Phils last night that Dusty tried to get Leake a CG.

Re: 2010 Philadelphia Phillies - Going for the Threepeat...of NL championships that is

Wow, we have a thread here? Didn't know.

I'd love a series victory, would be a great way to wrap the first half, but it won't cover up the injuries facing this team in the second half and some of the slumps certain guys can't seem to get out of. It's pretty imperative that we go after a 2B/3B who can actually play everyday until Utley comes back, because Valdez/Castro, while holding their own for what is expected, aren't enough.

Definitely a good sign that they didn't just give up while facing a huge climb last night. Part of the problem was attitude.

Re: 2010 Philadelphia Phillies - Going for the Threepeat...of NL championships that is

Well, the second half is here. Should we get to the post season and win a couple of rounds for the third year in a row, the World Series would actually start at Citizens Bank Park.

What do we need for a successful run? The Braves feel they shored up the offense a bit by trading for Gonzalez, and his power numbers are better than the guy he replaces. In the "Year Of the Pitcher" do we really need to worry that much about offense from the SS position?

Couple of changes I'd like to see the Phils make would be strongly consider platooning Ibanez and Francisco in LF. Ibanez still looks like he is struggling with the groin injury, not being able to turn on much of anything. Francisco would probably benefit from knowing he will get regular at-bats, as well as a role off the bench. Your outfield defense would improve a little as well as Francisco has more range. Another change who's time has come may be to consider some situational 9th inning engineering. Keep Madson as your set up guy and utilize Lidge, Romero and Contreras as the situation calls for it to close. I liked how Manuel did it in the 9th against the Reds last weekend, having Romero start the 9th to get Jay Bruce (a lefty with a little pop) out, then having Lidge nail down the final two hitters.

Last year we went into August with a large lead and into September with an even bigger one, 7.5 games. We had a little wiggle room with Lidge and his blown saves and sky-high ERA. Not so now, as every game is pretty critical if you have hopes of winning the division. And the WC is just as tough as you chase 4 or 5 other teams, perhaps only one of which you may have a lot of games left against.

Get everyone healthy, get someone (Rollins, Victorino, Howard) hot, and everything will be OK.
