2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Souray is actually nowhere right now. No minors at this time. Man on an island.

Is he still getting issued a paycheck every two weeks? If that's the case, shy of him being a complete locker room cancer, I'd get his * to Oklahoma City and back on the ice.

Hell, if I wanted to prolong my career, I'd suck it up and "Gretzky" it up in the minors to prove that I belonged back in the NHL. But I can't speak for Souray.

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

It's not that he's not good enough for the NHL, it's that he's got an awful contract and wants no part of being in Edmonton after blasting their front office for not even trying to improve the team, and they don't want him anymore either, telling him not to show up to training camp. I wouldn't mind him in San Jose for 3 million, but he can screw off with that 5.4 million cap hit.

Correct. He wants to play for a winner, but the winners can't afford to add him.

Souray placed on waivers today. Doubt that anyone will claim him; though he becomes a much more viable option on re-entry waivers at 2.7M.

Jose Theodore to the Wild for 1.1M. My guess is that I'll be one of the few people that likes that move for Minnesota.

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

I heard Tremblay had some choice words for Richards but I haven't dug up a link yet.

Even before the season starts, the heat is on coach Todd Richards. Former Wild assistant coach Mario Tremblay took his old job back at CKAC in Montreal. He's also working for RDS TV. On CKAC Thursday, Tremblay had this to say (in French of course -- this is the translation) regarding my report yesterday that Michel Therrien is working for the Wild as a part-time scout.

"Things are heating up in Minnesota. Some players are displeased. They don't have a good training camp. The haven’t won, yet. It seems the owner is starting to put pressure on Mr. Fletcher to make sure the team will have a good start.

"Michel is not there to be a long time pro scout. I hope Todd Richards realizes his days are numbered. I think the season will still be young when he’s going to be replaced. It could even happen before the season because the Wild hasn’t won yet."

Found it.

A few hockey notes...

* Getzlaf named captain in Anaheim

* Cammalleri disciplinary hearing today (expect 2 game suspension)

* Did anyone else realize the season kick off Thursday at noon? If you telecommute (raises hand), this is full of awesome.

Rangers sign Ruslan Fedotenko after doing very well in the preseason on a tryout.

Flyers let Bill Guerin go.

Leafs send Luca Caputi, Christian Hanson and Nazem Kadri to the AHL. The Leafs lineup to start the season will not be very awe-inspiring. Yeesh.

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

So someone tell me what I am missing.

NHL.COM online game streaming via their web site says "single payment $159.00 ($10 off)" or "monthly payment $19.95 (thru April)".

Why is monthly cheaper?

Even if its $10 off the $159, thats still $10 more than the monthly total.

Brendan Morrison, cut by Vancouver yesterday, signs with Calgary for one year, $750,000.

Canucks fans are already rooting against their team when the Flames come to town.

When Burke told (Kadri) earlier in the day that he was ticketed for the farm, the Leafs GM explained that he’d once had this same discussion in Anaheim with Ryan Getzlaf, who built on his time on the farm to go on to win a Stanley Cup and Olympic gold medal.

If Kadri ends up being anywhere near the productive player that the dominating Getlaf has become, Burke and his management team will be giddy at the results.

After 43 years of waiting, what's another year -- or two -- or three.... :(

So I wasn't that excited about the NHL season starting, because I really haven't decided where to place my rooting interests this year. Then I remembered I get to watch HNIC on Saturdays. And I love HNIC.

and Time Warner has a free preview of Center Ice for the next 2 weeks.
