2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

There are Whalers fans? Oh right, I always forget about all those people that have loved the Whale their entire life*.

*Their entire life starting 2 years after the Whale moved.

Aw, c'mon. They were the Cubs/MTU/Rams (circa 1990's, before the title) of the NHL. You couldn't hate them. They were a lovable mongrel.

ECHL expands to Chicago with the new "Chicago Express."

I'm hoping they go better than the UHL Chicago Hounds did. I'd like to see who they affiliate with, but I won't mind going up to a couple games. And it's practically next door to work. :D

It will help that the ECHL is actually a legitimate league and not a glorified bar league like the UHL was/is (I think the IHL still exists which is what the UHL has formed into again)

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Yup, the <strike>Colonial Hockey League</strike> Err <strike>United Hockey League</strike> International Hockey League is still around. They "merged" this summer with the low level pro Central Hockey League.

I keep learning more and more of how the Frankes an the Fort Wayne Komets were propping up the IHL (and UHL before it) under the table (and sometimes outright) because they like being the biggest fish in the tiny pool. They also refuse to join a "players union" league like the AHL or ECHL.

The attendance problems weren't because there was no interest (Rockford, Moline, and K-zoo were still UHL teams), but it was in ineptitude of the original owners of the Chicago Hounds that killed the team.

Rockford Icehog fans actually lost interest in their team when they made the move to the AHL. They missed the shi**y hockey and guaranteed fights.

I'm curious to see how my old hometown of Muskegon handles the move from IHL/UHL to USHL. They had a couple letters to the editor of people ****ing and moaning about the end of professional hockey after 50 years, but frankly, the talent level is probably going to be better despite being 16 year old kids than anything in Walker Arena since the Penguins moved the (original IHL) Lumberjacks to Cleveland 20 years ago.

Well -- my team is off the a good start. Blasted 5-0 by the Sens.

Not even worth watching the delayed broadcast on NHL Net -- except for the great old-school sweaters!

I actually interviewed for a ticket sales job with the Lumberjacks and that backlash is exactly why I didn't get the job... They wanted someone with more experience to be able to smooth over the rough patches with people... I was actually surprised at that... I figured that the USHL would be a step up as well and be received as such... Nope

It's the same rationale by which it's difficult to sell most hockey fans on the college game. If they aren't pros, they must suck.

The good news is that they won the all important truculence battle. ;)

B's-Habs tonight from the Bell Centre. Former Michigan Wolverine Aaron Palushaj has been having a fantastic camp, and will skate with Pleks and Cammy tonight to show what he can do.

Tyler Seguin makes his Bruins debut.

Welcome to the Carey Price era (or perhaps, error?!?).....

3 goals on 6 shots in the first period. Meanwhile, Rask turns aside 13; including some grade A opportunities. 3-0 B's after 1.

Yikes.

Is it uncouth to pull a goalie in preseason?
