2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

I saw that, but it's at 5pm meaning if I flew back that night I'd get home well after midnight.

It's not really an issue (as compared to this past year) though because the Frozen Four is actually at the Xcel Center, whereas with the FF at Ford Field I wouldn't get to see the Joe. I don't have any particular desire to see the Wild, it's much more important for the Twins to be at home.

It's possible that the Wild-Stars game could play a role in how the playoffs are figured out. It's the last day of the regular season.

Yeah, if the Twins play at home that weekend, that'd be awesome. Hit the game, then just stay downtown Mpls and have some fun.

I take that back. It would be beyond awesome.

Yeah, but it's the Western Conference, who gives a crap?

Since you're from the east, I can understand your attitude. I wouldn't expect you to grasp the concept of a conference where all of the home ice teams are legitimately good and three of them don't go tits up in the first round. :D

Pretty sure we'll be downtown one night, and having a helluva good time, whether the Twins are home or not. If we're lucky, there will be a minor league basketball game so we can make fun of the 25 Timberwolves fans as they walk out of the arena!

Saw this from Calgary Sun columnist Eric Francis. :D ;)

Performing to two sold-out crowds at the Dome last week, hockey-mad Vancouver crooner Michael Buble took a few minutes to throw in his two cents on the Flames’ big off-season acquisition.

Claiming he saw several dozen “hippies” using Hula Hoops at Eau Claire last weekend, Buble said he was sure he saw Darryl Sutter hangin’ with the group. Pretending to take a puff of a joint, he did his best Sutter impression, which sounded more like Tommy Chong: “You know what would be awesome,” started Buble, “if we got Olli Jokinen back.” The crowd exploded in laughter.

Rumors from Puck Daddy are that Huet may be <strike>buried under the Congress Expressway</strike> hidden in the Swiss League to give the Blackhawks some cap relief.

Not sure if I feel dissapointed that Huet's not going to Rockford, or glad that I can make a sign for games that even Huet didn't want to go to Rockford for $5 million dollars. :D

WOW!

The T-Puppies are on the up and up. Last time I checked, they only had 10 fans and 5 of them were the pity fans. The other 5 won free tickets and had nothing else better to do. :D

They got 15 more fans this year due to their progressive $1 per game season ticket special.

I know minor league clubs have attendance issues, but seriously? Couldn't the Celtics do a little more promotion of their affiliate?

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

That Willie Mitchell deal? Absurd.

Agreed. After three concussions, it seems like he's about one big sneeze away from being the next Muhammad Ali.

How so? The guy, when healthy, is one of the best shut down defenders in the league...and for 3.5M? A great deal. He gets a concussion and what happens? The Kings free up cap space and it's like it never happened.

While I agree that Mitchell is a good defender, I don't think I'm going to tie up 3.5M on a guy who is that injury prone. As for freeing up cap space (through LTIR), I sure hope a team is thinking a little bit beyond that. Yeah, that's great, the money *may* come off the books....but then you've got a huge hole to fill.

Also, at this point I think it's kind of crazy to spend 3.5M on someone so one dimensional, unless you're popping in 30 goals a season.

As was pointed out and shown in one of the Sharks blogs: "only Chris Pronger, Zdeno Chara, and Marc Staal faced a higher quality of competition last season while giving up less goals against at even strength."

I'd take that for 3.5M. Especially to have him paired with either Doughty or Johnson. Both those players can push even harder offensively playing with him.

Mostly I'm just peaved that he's playing in LA instead of San Jose, where Wallin and Huskins make more than that combined. :(

They'd double it twice over if they ran a "50 cent Friday" promotion. 50 cent ticket to the upper bowl, 50 cents for the first 3 beers.

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

The Kings also really needed help on defense, and had money to spend. I like the signing.

They'd need to give me free beer and more than 3 of them to get me to go to one of those games.
