2010 Division III Commitments

Re: 2010 Division III Commitments

Pretty soon we will know if all these guys are really going where they claimed, and who the secret recruits are (like NU's two goalies).

Actually, I'd be willing to bet that almost all, if not all, of these are actually recruited by the teams. The numbers on some make you scratch your head, but I have those confirmed from very reliable sources as actually having been recruited by the coaches.

Of course, I don't think any coach fully intends for every one of htese guys to dress for every game. A lot of teams are going to have a lot of competition for ice time this year, and I see that as a good thing.

And yes, there are tons of recruits (and potential walk-ons) that are not listed. It'll be interesting to see who they are. I'm aware of the presence of an unnamed recruit for at least one, if not two schools. In one case, I've been told nothing. In the other case, I've been assured that he has has USHL experience, and that team is particularly excited about this player. Should be interesting to see how he works out for them.

Is it hockey season yet?

I'll take a Klinger or two from the walk-on bin, thank you :)

Re: 2010 Division III Commitments

Without a letter of intent DIII programs have to over recruit. But some of these teams are bringing in a lot of kids. I don’t blame the NCAA programs so much, I blame the parents for not fully understanding the process along with overestimating their sons potential. In these cases Id like to think the player is choosing the school that happens to have a hockey program.
The other side is I see some really good hockey players listed. To me its amazing how good hockey has gotten since I played in ’97.

GL - Keen observation about the new Hamline recruits. The Russell Stover Program has produced some very good talent over the past several years under Pat Ferschweiler who left RS this summer to accept Asst Coach position at DI W. Michigan. I see now Ryan McIlhone is on the board. He and Stowers were indeed linemates a few years back and led RS U18 Midgets to the Tier I Nat'ls. There is definitely some chemistry there. Another interesting fact, Belisle and Stowers played juniors together in Springfield (NAHL) and New Jersey (EJHL). More chemistry there. The RS D-man who's brother just graduated is a big guy who should help replace the 6'8" Vichorek who went pro after this past season. There is even another former RS goalie who played on the same team as Stowers and McIlhone and will give Christian a run at the starting tender slot. No names as they are not listed yet. Hamline finished in the top 10 last year, have quite a few players with USHL experience and have most of their top players on both sides of the blue line returning. Scott Bell is one of the premier young DIII coaches in the nation who knows how to recruit and is highly sought after. With the DIII Frozen Four in their backyard this year, it should be a VERY interesting year for the Pipers!

Obviously you know or have watched these boys, as I have. Since McElhone is now listed, I am comfortable with posting that Joel Scattarelli is headed to Hamline as well. I have talked to both recently and they have confirmed they are headed there. Both players certainly have the potential to crack the line-up as freshmen. Regarding the RS goalie, I only saw him play once or twice as he was playing behind Brandon Jaeger when he was in Kansas City (Jaeger was a standout in the NAHL this past season) so I am not sure how he will fare. I would expect the Pipers will have another fine season.

Besides Watts?

No, Watts is it. Great pick-up. I saw him a few times as a freshman. Hard nosed and a few too many penalties, but should be an outstanding DIII player. Not sure what happened to his playing time last year.

Re: 2010 Division III Commitments

Yes, that was linked to on this thread some time ago. I've been in contact with the person posting that list ever since. The names I could confirm are on the list, there are a few he has that I've established as attending the particular school but not as a hockey recruit (at least one is in fact a Lax recruit), and the rest I simply could not confirm (and he could provide me with no confirming information).

Good job on finding stuff, but it seems like if somebody tells him a name, and that kid played hockey in the last two seasons, that's good enough for him. I do expect to see a number of the players he has listed that I do not playing for the teams he has them playing for. But I expect to see just as many of them never suiting up for an NCAA hockey team.

Re: 2010 Division III Commitments

I can confirm that the six Hamilton recruits listed on this site are enrolled. Sisler, Herr and Messerly have not been associated with the "hockey guys" during the first days of orientation though they may be on campus.
