2010 Baseball Hall of Fame Class

Re: 2010 Baseball Hall of Fame Class

I'm curious if they'll have Dawson wearing the Expos hat.

It would be a shame if he went in with another hat, 6 years with the Cubs (including his MVP year) versus 11 (10 full) seasons with the Expos. Plus he spent most of his Expos years playing center field.

I agree, but this is freakin' MLB we're talking about. They'll probably make him wear a Nationals hat. :D

Re: 2010 Baseball Hall of Fame Class

Here's what I don't get about this whole "first ballot" nonsense.

Can anyone actually name all these "first ballot HOF'ers" without resorting to google? If that % is below 5%, then who the hell cares, aside from a pile of crusty old ****s? If they're supposed to be hall of fame caliber, vote the guy in so we can get on with it.

Re: 2010 Baseball Hall of Fame Class

Hmmmm... Since you already have taken the nancy boy route and have him on ignore, why do you care that he posts at all?

Just sayin.... :p

Its not working because everyone still quotes his ****ed posts! I almost want to ignore jmh just so I dont have to read the Rover dreck, but then I would also have to ignore anyone who posts in a political thread...wait a second!

Maybe I should take him off ignore...then he could call me a nerd!! :D

Re: 2010 Baseball Hall of Fame Class

I remember watching Andre Dawson, Ellis Valentine and Warren Cromartie play outfield for the Denver Bears the year before the three of them went up to the Expos. You could tell then that the three of them were all going to make it. I believe the Bears that year won both halves of the minor league season by double digits. In their prime those three formed one of the best outfields in baseball. Too bad a lot of people didn't get to see them play together as they toiled in the relative obscurity of Montreal. The Hawk should go in as an Expo.

Re: 2010 Baseball Hall of Fame Class

Ellis Valentine is considered to have the best arm in major league history, right?

What was it like seeing his outfield cannon in person?

Re: 2010 Baseball Hall of Fame Class

I'd throw Dewey Evans, Dave Parker and Jay Buhner in the mix too.

Dewey had an absolute rifle for an arm. I never got to see Clemente play, I was only just barely over 1 when he died, but have seen enough film IMO to rate him as having the best arm I have ever seen.

No one ran on him, he definitely had a cannon for an arm. He could throw a rope from right to third. Besides Evans, Parker and Buhner, Vlad Guerrero also had a pretty good arm until he got older. I remember going to see him play when he was with the Expos against the Phillies and the Phillies weren't even making wide turns around first when singles were hit his way.

Vlad always had a cannon but it was often a shotgun. :D

'87 All Star game in Oakland I believe, 15 or so years into Evans career, there's a medium range fly ball to right with Raines sitting on 3rd base representing the winning run. Evans catches and fires a strike to home, Raines didn't even dare try it. :D

Re: 2010 Baseball Hall of Fame Class

Ichiro's not half-bad, either.

Ichiro's less about his arm (now) and more about his perfect mechanics. Its unbelievable how poor almost every outfielder is on receiving the ball especially on sacrifice flyball situations.

They camp directly under the ball which is what you teach in little league: because simply catching the ball at that level is a miracle.

But that's wrong at the professional level...you want to be slightly behind the ball so that your momentum is coming toward the plate. That little forward momentum helps a lot on throws.

Hell, in beer-league softball you know this. Just sayin'.

Re: 2010 Baseball Hall of Fame Class

He was ridiculous. What a freaking cannon he had out there. He also had a sweet jheri curl.

+1 :)
