2010 Atlantic Hurricane Season

Re: 2010 Atlantic Hurricane Season

And that's why nobody watches the weather channel any more. More hype than forecasts. When they had John Hope and Steve Lyons, that had tropical experts who gave you the facts, not hype.

A 9 mb drop in pressure over 6 hours is not "major strengthening." It's slow but steady strengthening. The recon plane also reported that the eye is open to the south, meaning that it doesn't have an eyewall all the way around. As long as it doesn't have a complete eyewall, it will not strengthen significantly. It's barely a Category 4 and only has a limited window for strengthening, maybe another 12-24 hours at most.

Im not saying they dont over-sensationalize things, because they have become more "mainstream" lately. Whatever, thats not the issue.

Current Loop

Rainbow Color Loop

If you look at that loop, you can see the eyewall and the eye becoming very well defined.

Lowest pressure on the current Hunters are 929 Mb (Weather Underground).

Who the hell watched the weather channel to begin with? Other than 85 year olds. Are you saying even 85 year olds don't watch the weather channel anymore?

I heard Sublime on as music for the local forecast. Im watching now, and its Cliffs of Dover.

Re: 2010 Atlantic Hurricane Season

Newest recon has a pressure of 932 mb. Looks like Earl has peaked in intensity. The only questions left now are:

1. How close does it come to the Outer Banks?
2. How close does it come to Cape Cod and the Islands?
3. Does it make landfall in eastern Maine, New Brunswick, or Nova Scotia?

Re: 2010 Atlantic Hurricane Season

I'm still hoping for a NYC landfall only because of the mayhem it would cause.

Oh, and good morning all

Re: 2010 Atlantic Hurricane Season

So far Earl has wimped out here on the jersey shore. We are right on the ocean and have gotten zero wind and only a sprinkle or two. I am not complaining-the further it stays off shore the better for us.

It wimped out down here also. All we seemed to get was a few clouds.

Re: 2010 Atlantic Hurricane Season

Nothing in NYC so far and nothing at my home in Long Island. Normal partly cloudy day so far and Yanks are winning 7-3. :)

Re: 2010 Atlantic Hurricane Season

Its clouded up some but its hot, humid and not windy here. I hope we get some rain out of Earl but leave the wind offshore

Re: 2010 Atlantic Hurricane Season

The news channels are calling it EEgor.
But any Gene Wilder fan knows its pronounced EYEgor. :D
EYEgor

Do you also say Fro-drich?

EDIT: Shep Smith just called it both! :D
