2010 Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup: The 'Banks vs. The 'Rage

Re: 2010 Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup: The 'Banks vs. The 'Rage

I only remember one, which I believe was Tavis who broke a stick over the bench but it was after a period ended not during the middle of the game. And it wasn't directly toward the ref, it was just cause he was ****ed.

I don't actually remember what happened, but I do know Gadowsky was suspended after a series in Miami either his first or second year at UAF. I think there was a late disputed goal that he went nuts about, but I don't think he threw anything or stepped on the ice.

Be interesting to see the players reaction to Shyiak, I think they might appreciate him standing up for them, but he also has to have the ability to keep his players in check which might be harder after that outburst.

I hope this ends up on youtube. Gwozdecky and Blasi's fits were funny, and I need a baseline to compare to.

It has happened more than once with Gwoz, he has been suspended twice. Last year he stood up on the dasher board and went ballistic at the ref. He was kicked out of the game, and instead of going to the locker room, he went the opposite direction and walked across the ice to the penalty box, and had a conversation with the linesman until the ref came over and broke it up.

Gwoz then went to the locker room and communicated electronically with the asst. coaches, also a NCAA violation.

JJ, you can call me out all you want. I have never criticized Shy for not showing passion when it came to the refs. I get irritated by his lack of passion when he is being interviewed, on his coaches show, and how he interacts (or more aptly doesn't) with the fans and community.

Re: 2010 Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup: The 'Banks vs. The 'Rage

And I dispute that his penalty led directly to the goal, did it help? No. But remember that UAA was killing off a 5 minute major at that time anyway. And with the way UAF's PP had been, that probably would have been a goal anyway.

It is indisputable. UA scored 15 seconds into the 5 on 3! UAa had been doing great on the PK, 1 for 5 up to that point and had killed 1 min of the 5. You LOST by the goal that was scored because of his penalty. He could have slamed the glass, bench or boards w/ a stick and not have been called. He lost his head and took a stupid penalty, hmmm the same thing he said his team was doing.. Our turn around and success has been credited to the team buying in to the the coaches system and attitude. So might UAa's be the same?
How many more games would UAa have won if the didn't take over 1 period of penalties a game.
Also doing something that could injure someone is unexcusable.

Where did the water bottle end up? They didn't show it on TV. And speaking of TV, that was HORRIBLE coverage, who is in charge? UA_ students. If I had paid $7 to watch that crap on B2 I would demand a refund. Learn how to pan out and follow the puck. Multiple times we got a black screen in the middle of play. It was pathetic.

It went all the way the penalty box. I got it and gonna put it on Ebay.

Re: 2010 Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup: The 'Banks vs. The 'Rage

Ok I'll be the one to defend him.

What he did is called showing passion for his team and defending his team against what seemed to be circus-like officiating. Multiple times people, Suze especially (and yes I am singling you out), have said that Dave never showed enough passion in the past when the refs seem to make horrible calls. Now, when he actually does it, you guys want him fired! WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot do you want from him?!? He was caring for his team, showing passion for them, the same exact thing that you people say you do for the players. That's part of his job, that what's coaches do in situations like that, hoping his players respond. If a UAF player had cheap shotted some player and Kevin Clark or Nick Haddad had fought the guy and gotten a 5 and Game DQ would you want them kicked off the team and out of school? No! Well that's akin to what the referee was doing to Shyiak and so he fought back. Is he going to be punished? Yes. Should he be suspended? Yes. Should he be fined? Yes. Should he be fired? No. He's not the first coach do that (and IceAngel I'm willing to bet money that a UAF coach has done something like that before), he won't be the last.

And I dispute that his penalty led directly to the goal, did it help? No. But remember that UAA was killing off a 5 minute major at that time anyway. And with the way UAF's PP had been, that probably would have been a goal anyway.

JJ, you said "you guys want him fired!" Ummm, ONE person made that comment, and I am not even sure they are a real UAA fan. I did not say Shyiak should be fired, and I did not agree with that statement. For the record, I simply said I understand why Shy did what he did, but I do not condone it.

Really? Christ, I've been a fan for at least 16 years. UAA hockey was a childhood love of mine. Don't question my admiration for the city of Anchorage nor this program.

Sure, to you, I may not be a "real fan" because I'm not throwing back the Shyiak Cool-Aid anymore, but I've been through the highs and lows.

Plain and simple: Shyiak's game-losing tirade was the tipping point for me with his regime. I don't care as to why he did it, but the fact remains that, one, not only did he do it, but he failed horribly at it.

I don't know how you can deny that it wasn't a tragically stupid move.

But, yeah, whatever. How dare I question or cast judgement on Dave, for I have not been assigned the arbitrary "real fan" tag, right?

Fridays broadcast wasn't any better

Don't question your "admiration" when you just threw the team under the bus? See ya!

Fine. Enjoy the Shyiak-Aid, which likely now is 100-proof moose urine. Shyiak's obviously an awesome human being with no foreseeable issues of any type.

Again, give me a buzz when Cobb signs a new coach that isn't a moron... or, at least, one that doesn't deliberately lose his team the game because of incredibly stupid and poorly-timed tirades.

Shyiak's the primary reason as to why we lost the cup last night. Don't be mad at me because I've found enlightenment.
