2010 Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup: The 'Banks vs. The 'Rage

Re: 2010 Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup: The 'Banks vs. The 'Rage

McInchak is hands down, the worst ref in the CCHA. Having seen him on several occasions this year, I can certainly understand how Shyiak felt.

Thoughts:
*Shyiak is a good coach, he lost his temper, and acted in a manner in which I'm sure he regrets now. He knows it was stupid, and I'm sure he is glad no one got hurt. He blew his temper, but this one incident isn't a reason to be calling for his head. It’s hard to be excited about a community that isn’t excited about you or the team, maybe if they had better support he would be more personable!
*The refs weren't great either game, but I thought they did a decent job. I am tired about hearing how the refs blew everything. They have a tough job. They made some bad calls, and missed some calls both nights. WCHA refs are no better than CCHA refs. I've read a number of blogs and articles the last few years, and there have been a TON of complaints about WCHA refs. Like I said it's a tough job that none of us would want to do. There should have been, at a minimum, a penalty on UAF for hauling down Grant. On the flip side Klausen was called for a knee on knee hit that never happened, and Sather was called for a cross check by hitting a uaa player with one hand (stick was in that hand). It was not a cross check. Those were both blown calls. It happens, and will continue to happen. The refs are only human.
*It makes me laugh a little to see this in fighting among uaa fans.
The better team won both nights. The Nooks out played, out battled, out hustled, out coached, and out everything the wolves. I think uaa looked better on Friday than they did on Saturday.
*Our top line is unreal, what did they have like 15 points in two games? They were poetry in motion.
*Kane Lafranchise is a very good blue liner. He showed up to play both nights. I was very impressed with him. What year is he? He has wheels, and really moves the puck well. Good shot as well.
*I was surprised Kaare Odegaard was out Saturday, I thought he was our best blue liner on Friday. He is coming along very nicely.
*The GCI feed on Friday was horrible. Talk about horrible camera work. Most the time the camera wasn’t even on the player with the puck.
*The Sully looked empty on TV. It is bigger than the CC so it was ard to tell. I had a friend that went to the game, and he said it was very "spotty." The CC was packed and loud. Fairbanks fans care about our team.
*I thought Greenham was decent, he wasn’t spectacular, but he got the job done. Uaa’s goalie on Saturday looked pretty good to me. He didn’t give up any soft goals like people said he would.
*Where is Alaska Hockey and his big mouth?:D

Kane Lafranchise is 21 and a Junior.
Jonny our goalie did play very well on saturday.
About Shyiak, I agree. He lost his temper, it was unfortunate it happened, but it did. I'm sure he feels bad. The game was stressful and he reacted.
Also, the fan turn-out at the Sully can be very disappointing, particularily for the boys to see, but the few times we've been there the fans that were there were awesome. They have a very strong and loyal fan base which is good to see. The camera doesn't show the fans sitting up high where it is a lot fuller, it just spans the lower areas along the glass where it's not the best viewing.
About the refs, well there definitely are some better than others.

Methodical that is awesome!

One thing you see on a lot of the UAF goals is a Nanook forward left all alone by the Seawolves somewhere near the front of the net. The plays where the UAF forward makes the defense look silly are bad, but really the failure to find the open man and pick him up by the UAA defense is worse. You certainly did see any goals there that you would say the goaltender should've had.

Aww Methodical no video of Shyiaks experience?? I have a friend who wanted to see it but I was only able to get a picture of it...

Maybe later. They aren't really highlights so to speak, so I didn't include them. I know a lot of people want to see just to analyze. When I've got time.
