Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Just my luck having a family dinner and missing the best game of the year. But $20.00??? In the past I've just walked right in.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

!!!

Knew it would be a good game.....my wife sent me a new UML hockey shirt this week.

5 goal scorers, 6 goals, coming from behind, holding a lead, was a hard-fought win although there were more than a few nervous moments.

Nice to be back in the win column.

Don't let those aliens escape! Wahoo. The les house won't have people sulking tonight.

Vallorani & Wetmore -- 3 pts; Cey, Schieu, Edwards -- 2 pts, Blair +1

"The power or ability to lead other people" lead-er-ship n. 2nd definition Merriam-Webster Dictionary.

For the first time in 2.5 months, and arguably the entire season, I saw that word at Merrimack College by the upperclassmen of the UML hockey team. It wasn't pretty, scripted, or otherwise but they got the job done. This was a total team effort tonight. The freshmen and sophomores did their part (some of which weren't on the score sheet) and Doug Carr didn't lose the game. The upperclassmen showed up tonight and it's no surprise that we finally saw some results.

Defensively, this game was a nightmare for both teams. Merrimack was very generous in giving up some pee-wee type turnovers and the important part was that Lowell capitalize on these gifts, especially in front of the net. It wasn't a clean game for Lowell either; Merrimack hit three if not four posts tonight and Carr came up big on more than one occasion.

Turning point in the game was killing the back end of the Merrimack two-man advantage at the end of the second period/early third. Had Merrimack tied it then, this game probably would have been a different story. I thought Blaise was going to cost the team at the end of the second because he was a hair strand away from getting a bench minor for yelling at the refs.

Stephane DaCosta was a man amongst boys tonight and after his second goal, had a few post-yuletide greetings for us Lowell fans that I can't repeat since we are a family show here at USCHO. Joe Cannata really had a night to forget and did not play well. The Merrimack defense corps are not far behind.

Riley Wetmore is one of the most underrated forwards in this league and there is no doubt in my mind he will be our team's captain next year.

Bonus points up for grabs against BC tomorrow night but the 8-10 positions in HE got a lot slimmer. I'm on-call, so I'll be listening on the radio.

A real credit to the current Lowell students and recent Lowell grads who showed a great deal of class by enjoying the win and not coming up with overrated chants or other dribble towards the Merrimack faithful. Sometimes, it's best not to do that and all things considered, tonight was one of those nights.

Now if we win against BC.... ;) :D :p

A solid 60 minutes of hockey by the Hawks tonight. I thought they pretty much out played and out worked Merrimack tonight. Hopefully they can keep it going tomorrow night.

A nice shot by Matt of David Vallorani icing it with the empty net goal.

Great win. Honestly surprised ... but so **** proud that the players that represent this University showed some pride tonight. Especially the upperclassmen.

Great job boys. Build on it.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Amazing you could even get a seat with all the scouts there watching 9 of their players. Best D in Hockey East
Without Dacosta, 10-0

This made me laugh. The place is so small it is amazing you can get a seat period.

So, I am not going to BC. Does this mean they will play well again? I sure hope so. Really glad they snapped out of the mental funk. It was a really bad funk.

That best D in Hockey East had a pretty off night from what I heard, but Cannata gave up quite a few rebounds that Lowell actually capitalized on as well.

Although Merrimack's top line players (DaCosta, Todd, Collins) put up some points on the PP, they were a minus 2 as a line last night. Stollery was a minus 3. Lowell did a nice job 5 on 5, the penalties got them into trouble.

Lawrence Eagle Tribune article on the game.

When the hell did Merrimack get a TV broadcasting crew!?!?!?!?!

edit: we can't have audio streaming but they have a TV crew? *grumble* *grumble* *grumble*

Actually, it's their radio guys that get simulcasted on Andover public access and resold to B2 Networks.

Years ago, Lowell did have a TV contract with WNDS-TV 50. Your hosts, Bob Gamere  and Brad Park.

On the youtube highlights it looked like he flipped off a section of the crowd after he scored his second goal.
