2010-11 Schedules

Re: 2010-11 Schedules

CC/DU, the Alaskas and Yale/Clarkson, and only Yale and CC at home.

I don't think we could handle any more! That's probably one of the most competitive non-cons in the country. Three tournament teams from last year, a crosstown rival and perennial power, and another WCHA team on their ice.
Imagine playing every WCHA team every year   ;)

Re: 2010-11 Schedules

Almost as hard to imagine as a WCHA roster filled with only Americans, every player staying for a full four years, then agreeing to serve in the military for five years after that!

Why would I want to imagine that? That sounds depressing.

Re: 2010-11 Schedules

On that subject, imagine having a crappy team in the WCHA and getting the crap kicked out of you every game and then graudating only to work in fast food for your life.

Yes... it must suck to be UAA.

I wasn't saying anything about the difficulty of the schedule. It will be a tough schedule, no doubt, for an AHA team. Good luck to Air Force in those games. I was just saying that they had the ability to schedule 3 more games...and didn't. That is what surprises me..

Also, after 2 years, kids are free to leave and not have to commit to the 5 years. After talking to Frank Serratore (on many occasions), one of the biggest things he always talked about was getting his So. to come back for the Jr. year, because then he knew he had them for all 4 years.

In other words, if they can get in to the AFA, they can commit to 1 or 2 years and then go on and play pro (just like they could at Harvard, Cornell, MTU, etc.). Now, that may not be the "Air Force hockey" way, but it is an option...

I'm always surprised when teams don't schedule the full set.

Or transfer.

I didn't see a whole lot of "empty" holes on the schedule. There's the one Sunday game at Bobby Mo that could have had another (already playing everyone else in the area), the Halloween weekend, and the holiday break (two finals weekends and Christmas weekend). There are already 8 trips on the schedule (7 to the East Coast and one to Alaska) so, short of getting someone to come out to Colorado, I'm not sure what else they could have done. There's no break during the second half (in years past they've had the President's day weekend) and only 4 weekends off October through March.

With the schedule difficulty they have, and the travel, I think they're justified in not filling every available slot (with Halloween weekend really being the only one available). I'm sure Frank would rather move one of the second half series to October, but, since those are all conference games, I'm guessing he didn't have the chance.

True, and even if that was acceptable to the program, it probably wouldn't fly with the administration. Since it costs the taxpayers over six figures per year for one cadet, the admissions folks aren't too keen on those who want to "try it out" for a couple of years and see how they like it. Sure, the option is there, and it does happen, but kids who don't at least have an interest in a military career aren't likely to get very far in the admissions process. (and probably won't even sit down with Frank or Andy a second time) Unlike some other schools in the area, Air Force is focused on recruiting and graduating students for careers other than hockey. It could happen for an exceptional talent (Greg Flynn played with the Lowell Devils last year) but it's pretty unusual.

Re: 2010-11 Schedules

Interesting that Mack plays at BC the same day as the Clemson at BC football game. I'm wondering if that game would get moved to a Sunday or they'll just switch the locations of the Friday and Saturday games for the home-and-home.

Not really...

It's safe to assum that this was released because it was final... I doubt they'll change it. Especially because of an away football game at Clemson. No reason that game can't be in the afternoon, leaving BC no worries for crowd support at Conte (it's Merrimack, it's not going to be great anyway) for the 7 pm faceoff vs. Merrimack that night.

My Guess is they'll need to move it. The campus is entirely reworked for football games, and it would be nearly impossible to turn around for a hockey game that night. Even if the game is at noon, it isn't over until 3, then tailgating would be allowed until 5, so people wouldn't even actually be off campus until 6. Not to mention that Conte is used as a gate for Alumni Stadium, so people would be going in and out of it all day. I don't think its possible when it would be much easier to move it to the Friday or Sunday.

Re: 2010-11 Schedules

Dates get swapped from these original schedules all the time.

I'm guessing they'll just flip the dates that weekend.

ESPECIALLY since 10-30 is supposed to be our home opener/banner raiser. There is no way they let that get screwed up by a football game.

Here's hoping they have the game at BC on Friday night, 10-29. The Sunday after a football game would get a horrible turnout.

Re: 2010-11 Schedules

Crap, I thought it was AT clemson (How could I forget that debacle in SC last year?). Yea, that is NOT happening... Forget everything I just typed.

I guess they really are all tentative schedules until the league releases their final composite schedule. You would think something this simple, though, knowing it really can't happen the way they have it on their schedule, that they would have listed it the other way around since it is far more likely to be changed.

I wonder how many rednecks will be at Conte Friday night spending their $2 bills stamped with Tiger paws.

Re: 2010-11 Schedules

This should be Notre Dame's schedule. Still some tweaking may come about...

October:
8 Icebreaker Tourney vs. Holy Cross in St. Louis
10 Icebreaker Tourney vs. BU/UW in St. Louis
14-15 LSSU
22-23 ? (the only thing I can come up with is an OOC opponent for one game at home)
29-30 WMU (I'm guessing home Friday, away Saturday due to FB)

November:
5-6 @ BG
12-13 @ Michigan
19-20 MSU
26-27 @ NoDak

December:
3-4 @ Miami
10-11 NMU

January:
1 Shillelagh Tourney vs. Brown
2 Shillelagh Tourney vs. BU/MSU-Mankato
7-8 @ NMU
14-15 UA(F)
21-22 @ OSU
28-29 Miami

February:
4-5 bye (or maybe even the USNTDP boys)
11-12 BG
18-19 @ FSU
25-26 WMU (again, I'm guessing away Friday, home Saturday)

That is the weekend BC has left for one OOC game, barring an unforseen change involving UMass the only other team they are waiting for a schedule. Rumors have BC going to South Bend.
