So who had Brian Boyle as the Rangers' leading scorer 51 games into the season?

Ha and doing most his damage with 4th line duty I believe. Guy has a lot of talent, but nobody could have expected this.

Chicago was robbed of a goal with the "intent to blow the whistle" crap. But, that would have made it 4-3 instead. Great job by our two goaltenders tonight, Niklas Backstrom and Brent Burns.

Well he put up good numbers in college and in the AHL, so its not too suprising that he could find twine in the NHL. The dude is huge and has a good shot.

True. I mean, it's obvious why he was a first round pick. Maybe it just took him a while to find his role.

Skating. His skating is miles better than it use to be. He worked in the offseason with Barbara Underhill, a former Olympic figure skater, to refine it.

Oh and he's played on the third line for most of the year.

And the way he's played, he deserves to at least keep that spot even if everybody were healthy.

Anyone know what the prognosis on Eminger is? He went into the boards pretty hard but I was watching someplace without sound and didn't know whether it was head or neck or shoulder or what.

Thank God we don't have another game until next Tuesday. Gives the walking infirmary that is the NY Rangers roster some time to lick their wounds and maybe get one or two guys back. Probably wishful thinking though.

Conroy clears waivers, could be the end of a very respectable career for him if he doesn't want to go to Abbotsford.

It's too bad about Conroy. A great player for many years. I've been watching the Flames a lot this year (BMo fan), it's a tough situation there. When he did crack the lineup he was usually getting < 10 minutes of ice time. He didn't really have much of a chance.

Gerbe is starting to look like he's a real NHLer though, no? Zippy little guy with some serious skill.

It will be interesting for the Rangers once players get healthy. Especially at center. Who sits? Who moves position? It will be nice to have those problems instead of who is healthy to play problem!

I like Boyle on the PP also. They need a body in front of the net and he can be that person. The Rangers haven't had anyone good at that since Graves.

I haven't heard anything about Eminger.

Re: 2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

Boyle's also playing mean. It was so weird to see him in previous seasons...so demure on the ice, not mixing it up with guys in the corners, the guy was mean as hell on the ice as an Eagle. Now he's getting dirty in the scrums too.

I also agree, his skating has improved big time. It's a pleasure to watch him out there.

Revisiting the Halak trade...some interesting comments in the St. Louis media about Jaro's performance:

I don't know what to say about Jaroslav Halak. He can be absolutely brilliant. His play can be inspiring. When Halak is in one of these zones, we remember why the Blues were so excited -- and why we were so thrilled -- to acquire him in the trade with Montreal. But the guy does not get it done on too many nights. He's allowed too many soft goals. He has not played well on the road. And this is one of the main reasons to explain why the Blues can't hold leads; great goaltending provides security to protect those leads.

and

Last season the Blues ranked 4th in the NHL with a road save percentage of .920. This season the road save percentage -- a stunningly bad .873 -- is dead last, 30th, in the NHL. And we thought the Blues had nothing to worry about in goal this season. Wow. This must change. That's for sure.

Deconstructing the Blues

Looks like just maybe Montreal made the right choice...particularly given how Price has played and they were able to use Halak's $$$ on keeping Plekanec.

Wayne Gretzky turns 50 today?!? Good God, I'm getting old.

Re: 2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

Five minutes into the 2nd period and the Avalanche have 3 shots on goal! Bryzgalov has broken out the recliner in the Phoenix crease!

Re: 2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

Bruins are now 4-0 in games I've attended.

Solid game, bit of a flat third period though.

So, what I wonder about the All-Star Game draft is: Is Eric Staal going to pick Marc Staal? And, more interestingly, will he reach to pick him earlier than someone else might?
