2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

Re: 2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

The most tradition laden AHL team (the Montreal Canadiens of the AHL if you will, only without the ineptitude of the Canadiens last few decades) has decided to stick a big middle finger to the rest of the AHL...

The Hershey Bears have been wearing jerseys with a logo declaring their back-to-back Calder Cup Championships. That's not the disgraceful part. The jerseys have the team logos on the shoulders of the two opponents they've beaten to win those cups.

Why is this a bad thing? Because a Canadian tells me it is? I don't give a ****.

Beat 'em and then you don't have to worry about it.

Mats Zuccarello for president! This kid is slowly becoming a rockstar in the NYR fan base circles.

Really wish the Habs could play Boston every game. Another epic collapse by the Ruins...it's just so enjoyable.

And Chara...wow, what a baby!!! You lost, get off the ice.

I'd come up with a clever retort, but my head is about to explode.

I'm not a Colts fan! Yes!

Look at it this way...this increases the chances that Julien is shown the door, and Boston is still a much better team than Montreal is right now, even if they can't beat the Habs.

That's the only positive I can glean from last night and the snorefest against Minnesota.

I mean I could complain about officiating - I can't, I was in the car during the meltdown - but when you spend the entire third period in your own zone, you pretty much deserve to lose. Unless you're facing PC's power play.

If I ever wasn't in the "FIRE CLODE" camp before (I was), I am now. The team needs a shakeup. Clode's uber-defense system has got to go.

Alex Frolov tears his ACL and MCL, out for the season.

The Rangers have been killed by injuries this season. Gaborik, Prospal, Drury, and Callahan have missed a combined total of 99 games and the Rangers are still 6th in the East.

This was my exact fear when I saw him go down. I know Frolov has underperformed but it's still another body we have to find. The youth of this team will continue to be tested and continue to be asked to contribute in a larger role than they are used to. So far it has worked and Marty Biron has been a Godsend as an backup goaltender for Hank.

I think the Rangers are a top-six forward away from being a legitimate contender still. I'd like to see us make a move before the deadline but I just don't know if we have the cap space of what is really out there that can help us.

Brad Richards sure would be nice but wherever he ends up is going to pay an awfully steep price. We also don't have the cap space for him either though.

You cannot not gripe about Mary Anne. He has a glass vagina and your GM **** well better have known what he was getting into when he forked over the money bags. :D

I've got no gripe with how Mary Anne as you say has performed with the Rangers. He was outstanding last season and only missed a handful of games.

I'm fully satisfied with our decision to dump Gomez and pick him up.

Yeah, Gaborik carried the team last year. This year Dubinsky, Boyle, and Girardi have stepped up.

And ZUCS!!!!

I think Prust and Anisimov have elevated their games a bit too. Staal has continued to improve and continues to push himself farther and farther up the list as an elite defenseman in the NHL.

EDIT: Fedetenko has been excellent role player as well.

I think Girardi has really advanced his play. In my opinion he has been the best D man the Rangers have.

And ZUCS!!!!

Let not go too overboard with him. He's played nicely in very limited play.

Staal has continued to improve and continues to push himself farther and farther up the list as an elite defenseman in the NHL.

Staal has improved a bit again. He a good shutdown D man for the Rangers. I think what is holding him back is he's neither a bruising defenseman nor an offensive defenseman. To become an elite Defenseman I would like to see him either up his offense or his physical play more.

As far as injuries go. The two that have really hurt the Rangers this season has been Gabby and Callahan. Callahan plays so well in all situations and he really plays well with Dubinsky. They make a great tandem. Gabby still isn't back into the groove yet. If he can start scoring goals more then watch out.

The only thing that Drury and Prospel do is take up a roster spots from younger players. Neither add anything more than what a younger, cheaper player could.

Oh, and I totally agree with Boyle. He's played excellent in his role this season.

And Dubinsky has been the Rangers MVP hands down in the first half. He's doing everything out there for them so far.

I've been waiting for this type of season from him for a long time. He's shown the ability countless times, but has gone on extreme cold streaks where he disappears out there. Hopefully he can keep it up.
