Stonehands Helm finally reminds the Wings that Jose Threeorfour is in net, not Ken Dryden, and it's 2-1 MIN going into the third.

I guess this losing streak is what I get for saying the Kings were doing pretty well.

Re: 2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

Bob McKenzie tweeted "RIP, Mansbreek." Sounds like Pat Burns has passed, and if so, a **** shame that he got passed over for the hall of fame this year.

A sad day for hockey. :(

As I wrote earlier today:

I suppose the news hit me hard on a number of levels. He was 58, I'm 57 - we are both ex-cops who love hockey. But selfishly, it was because of what he did as the coach of the Maple Leafs in the 90's.

The press reports all say Pat won a Stanley Cup with the Devils and coached the Bruins, but for long-suffering Leafs fans, Burns provided us with a two-year thrill ride in the midst of nearly a half-century of mediocrity.

How appropriate the the Leafs and Canadiens are on HNIC tonight. I'm sure Pat is watching -- wonder which side he's coaching from above?

Rest in Peace, Pat.

EDIT: I don't care what anyone says, Bob Cole still has it in his mid-70s. Seems fitting that he's calling the game tonight. After all, he called so many of Burns' playoff runs with the Habs and Leafs.

Gustavsson and Price are putting on a goaltending clinic in Montreal!

Great game!

That was a very fun game to watch. I thought Komisarek was still playing for the Habs on the Cammalleri goal; pefect pass!

I have to admit, I was initially very disappointed when Komisarek left town. 17 months later, not at all. I know he's had a good amount of injuries since the Lucic incident, but he's never really been the same player.

What does make me very, very sad is thinking about where the Canadiens might be if they didn't have the albatross Gomez contract.

One hell of an ending to regulation in Detroit. Zetterberg pops a PP goal with 0:03.2 left in regulation on what turned into a 2 on 1, after I thought the Wings were cooked with about 8 seconds to go.

And Lidstrom with a pretty deke, and the game winner with 3:32 left in OT.

Two points that Detroit probably didn't deserve based on the first 50 or so minutes of the game, but you won't find me complaining.

Iginla's two goals can't offset the stupid penalty that led to that PP.

Re: 2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

It wasn't Iginla's penalty that caused the power play there. Bouwmeester absolutely horsecollared Filpula near the boards. I mean, it would have been 15 yards in the NFL. Iginla got his two along with Abdelkader. They both dropped the gloves, and then the linesmen jumped in, and they both got sent off.

Re: 2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

Corey Perry just scored into his own goal on an empty net...from behind the opposition net. That doesn't happen often.

Hehe. The next Ducks/Blues game would be entertaining. How many own goals would either team have?

Is Taylor Hall really giving Perry (or possibly the Anaheim bench) the choking motion? :p
