2010-11 Minnesota Gophers -- May, West Pursue Erie March

Re: 2010-11 Minnesota Gophers -- May, West Pursue Erie March

Same question as yesterday, this time Rasmussen.

I don't know the answer to your question. Yet I think it's a safe bet that Frost would like to see more offensively from Ras than he has seen to this point. Perhaps another healthy scratch. I hope it's nothing more.

Good to see the team bounce back the way they did today. A little Jekyll and Hyde aspect to the team at times as we've seen vs. MSU, UW and now BSU. I'd love to see two strong, consistent efforts against the Buckeyes next weekend...and even though she's one of the most exciting players to watch in the WCHA...I could do without a Natalie Spooner show next weekend. Yes, I know OSU has additional weapons of mass destruction. Other than the Mavericks and Huskies...the Gophers have had some struggles containing opponents top line(s). Pretty tall order for two games with the Buckeyes but something they need to be successful at, by and large for chances of winning the series outright.

Same answer.

Other random thoughts ...
I like the defensive rotation a lot better with Bozek back in it;
I like the team as a whole a lot better when they skate hard;
Kelly Terry, in addition to having the highest point total through 2 months, has probably been our most consistent performer;
I think Mira Jalosuo has played her best hockey of her Gopher career over the last two weekends;
I believe 10/9/11 should be kept together as a high priority;
I like Bemidji's new digs -- not that I saw all of it, but I liked what I saw;
I think BSU will miss Cody a great deal next year.

One way to look at this weekend -- with two teams ahead of us, UMD and UND, playing head-to-head, it is an opportunity to gain ground on somebody. Another way to look at it is that those two are starting the second half of the WCHA schedule while the rest of the teams are concluding the first half, so we could postpone including their results in the standings until everybody catches up in January. In any case, a very important series this weekend against The OSU. I hope they play like they did for the first two periods on Saturday, and Christmas comes early for the Gophs and their fans. :)

For those who don't get the booster club newsletter, here's a little bit on the Canadian half of the frosh class on the PPC site.

Questions regarding the status of Emily West have been a constant at Ridder and during game blogs:

No decision on West: Women's coach Brad Frost said the team will "make a decision soon" on whether Emily West will have season-ending surgery on her injured knee.

West, a senior, was the Gophers' leading scorer last season with 23 goals among 46 points but has been limited to four games this season.

Also:

Darwitz to have surgery: Gophers women's assistant coach and four-time Olympian Natalie Darwitz is having surgery Tuesday to repair a left wrist injury that has bothered her for months. Darwitz, 27, has told USA Hockey she will not play this season but hasn't ruled out playing next season.

Lots of content today...

OK we're caught up on all the great content, now it's time for the Gophers to close out the first half with two wins! Relentless pressure and smart play is what we need.

P.S. And watch No. 5!

For those up early this morning..

Big Ten Network is once again replaying the Gopher game from Friday Night. I believe its the StudentU platform but its Women's Hockey on TV nonetheless.

Due to the weather, the alumni game scheduled for 10 a.m. this morning has been canceled.

Any official word on the game at 2:00? I was going to go this afternoon but so far there's no sign of the city plow and I'm snowed in!

Re: 2010-11 Minnesota Gophers -- May, West Pursue Erie March

Just wondering aloud: Does the postponement benefit one of the teams more than the other? Part of me thinks the delay might dissipate Gopher momentum a little. At the same time, maybe the Buckeyes are chomping at the bit to play after being cooped up in the hotel for an extra day. But another part me says that all of that is just wishin' and hopin'.

Thoughts?
