2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

Possible but not likely...you dont bring in a shortstop to play a different position (the NY Yankees not withstanding) I mean was there not an ACTUAL third or second basemen out there?

Does Bill Hall still play for Milwaukee? ;)

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

So because Handyman says so, we should ignore every year for JJ Hardy but the last one. :)

I'm just surprised the Twins didn't try to keep Cabrera...

Reusse had an interesting comment regarding Cabrera this season, he said players are thrilled to get him and thrilled when he leaves. Pat made it sound like he can be really annoying. Of course, if he plays well who cares but still interesting.

I posted this at GPL but for Twins fans that don't visit:

Hardy is a career .262 hitter, including .277 three years ago and .283 two years ago with 50 HRs and 154 RBIs combined with a better career OBP, SLG and OPS than Gomez. Gomez is a career .246 with 12 HRs and 99 RBIs in three years, has nearly as many SOs as Hs, doesn't steal nearly as many bases or even get on base nearly as much as he should and is average in the field. Never mind the guy wastes more ABs than any Twin in history. The Twins needed to get rid of someone in the OF and I see nothing wrong with this trade. Now if they also get rid of Young for something decent I'll be even happier.

Why oh why would you pick up Cuddyer's option for 2011?

Why wouldn't you? He had a career year. I know a lot of people like hating on him because of some untimely strikeouts (which were most noticable during certain games early in the year) and limited range. However, he still has a gun for an arm and filled in great at 1st base when the team needed it most.

Press release:
Cuddyer finished the season tied for sixth in the American League in extra-base hits (73), ninth in total bases (306), 10th in home runs and 15th in slugging percentage (.520).

That is someone I want on my team, IMHO.

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

Handyman: JJ Hardy had a bad year after several All Star years. We shouldn't have traded for him.

redheadzeb: Michael Cuddyer had a good month and a half surrounded by a lot of mediocrity. It is good that we picked up his option.

I just really enjoy irony. :)

Am I missing something...Hardy has made 1 all star game...how does that equate to "several all star years"? If you are going to make up something I said or thought could you at least try and make it sound like I didn't get my education at St. Cloud State ;)

Ron Coomer made an All-Star game too...

Yeah, just keep ignoring the fact Hardy's career stats are better than Gomez's.

So are Nick Punto's whats your point? You act like I want Gomez on the team, I have said numerous times I am glad he is gone. I was arguing the statement that Hardy has had "several all star years" when he has made 1 all star game. I may not be a math or english major but I am pretty sure 1 doesn't equal "several".

You are right though, I should never ignore that career .262 batting average...SMOKING! :p ;)

You said you, "don't get the move", as if it were a terrible trade. So I simply pointed out we don't need Gomez in the outfied, that Hardy's career numbers are better and that last year was the worst of his career, not that he was a future hall of famer. It's a no-brainer trade to anyone with a baseball pulse.

How can you have an argument about a misstated fact? Just say "He's actually only made one appearance." That's the end of that part of the discussion.
