2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

To the fans that cheered him on (most of them sadly) congrats you are now on par with White Sux fans...bully for you!

It was a nice run and a great ending, now comes the offseason where some serious work needs to be done. Time for ownership to kick it up a notch and make good on some promises!

Trading Delmon Young and Carlos Gomez for a 3rd baseman is #1 on my list.

One of the NYTimes reporters said the Homer Hankies were fewer than he expected, and that part of the reason might be that you had to buy them, rather than the team footing the bill and having one on each seat before the game. Anybody at the game? Does this sound true? I'd like to wait a day or two before reverting back to cranky guy who thinks the owners of the Twins laugh all the way to the bank while we dopes keep showing up for another lovable, scrappy, ooh I hate those evil rich Yankees, we play the game right, 2nd-rate team. Making your fans buy 40-cent towels won't help my funk.

At game 163 they handed them out to the fans...tonight you had to buy them for 2 bucks. I bought a couple but it was rather lame.

How about also trading Casilla and Morales for some bullpen help. Then signing a #1 starter...a REAL #1 starter.

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

Saw something in glog on cbssportsline.com saying that Mauer's only chance to win a World Series is if he gets off the Twins...and then the guy blamed our pitching staff. If you think that the pitching was the main problem in this series, you are a complete f&*%ing moron. The worst performance from any Twins pitcher came from one of the supposed "best closers" in baseball...TWICE. A guy with a ton of experience...not some rookie. Otherwise it was a couple homers. The only person who got bombed was Duensing...and he has about a half dozen starts in his career.

That's what you get for reading a glog. :D

But yeah, almost all of games 2 & 3 had the kind of pitching we had to have. More than I'd hoped for, really. Oh well.

At least Hrbek can finally stop drinking all that beer. Good lord take more care of yourself, man!

We just got back from the dome. Traffic was horrible, 35 minutes=4 blocks. I think shirtless guy said it best "I didn't expect the Twins to win this series, but I definitely didn't think think they'd beat themselves."

I got home rather quick...I parked at the Government Center ramp about 4 blocks away for 7 bucks and dropped my friend off by about 20 after 10....I was surprised how easy it was to get through downtown at that point.

nice season, twinkies. sorry it had to end like that. your team put up a hell of a fight down the stretch without slowey and morneau and probably would still be playing if not for some baserunning blunders.

atleast you still have the vikings?

Last couple times I've gone, I've parked on Franklin Avenue and have taken the train in. Free parking on the street, $3.50 for the train ticket, five minute ride to Metrodome.

Yeah, we do, they aren't supposed to leave town until 2012.

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

Your team is already leaving town to play somewhere else, you probably shouldn't be taunting.

If my team leaves, I'm off the bandwagon. That country has their own dam football. Keep it there. Don't steal our football. *ing bastiges.

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

Technically, that is what they shoulda been way back when. ;)

Not really. They almost joined the AFL as the Minnesota Vikings, but Rozelle talked their owner out of it saying he could have an NFL franchise if he waited a year.

Three Minneapolis businessmen Bill Boyer, H. P. Skoglund and Max Winter were awarded a franchise in the new American Football League. Five months later in January 1960, the ownership group along with Bernie Ridder forfeited its AFL membership and then was awarded the National Football League's 14th franchise with play to begin in 1961.

I'm annoyed at the stuff I've seen about the Punto play, specifically at places like mlb.com, where the highlight is headlined "Jeter's Smart Play," or something like that. And one of the TV guys said "A BRILLIANT play by Jeter!"

I know I'm all irked cause we lost, but if anybody's brilliant on that play it's A-Rod covering right on top of 3rd base. Or Posada with such a sharp throw, right at the point where Punto'll be sliding. All Jeter did was catch a grounder and lob it towards home. That seems routine to me. Either that or run it in once you catch it.

I got nothing against Jeter. This is about the people who call the games and write the articles.

Bah, I'm grumpy about the whole thing.

Don't they have a 3B prospect that is supposedly MLB ready for next season?

Last night (well all 3 I guess) was truly disappointing. I really thought going in yesterday if they won last night they'd make it go 5. :(

Wouldn't throwing to first, where there was a force play, be a tad more routine? Just a thought.
