2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

Well, going into the postseason, I had absolutely zero expectations...and the Twins are barely living up to them.

What is frustrating, is, at least IMO, the Twins have played with, if not better than the Yankees. We just cannot buy a hit with runners on base, and if we do, we manage to screw it up on the basepaths.

I also think we're missing Morneau tremendously. As big a part of the comeback to win the division as Kubel was, he's been invisible in the ALDS.

Thanks for the memories Hubert Horatio Humphrey Metrodome. It's the only baseball park I've known. I've watched some great games there...

Same here. The Twins franchise accomplished more at the Metrodome than at any other place in their history. I just hope that Target Field brings the same amount, if not more, success to the Twins in the coming years.

I tried not to have expectations, either, but I ended up having them just the same.

4-1 now; still only 1 out. This should pretty much do it. Paging Dr. Kevorkian(sp) :(

Yep.

Bases loaded with 1 out...this should be interesting.

Yuck.

It just seems that this is the way it always goes against New York at home. We hang in there for the first 7-8 innings, and then they blow it wide open at the end.

The Twins, while once dominant in the playoffs at home, will have lost their final 8 playoff games at home. Five times, they lost to the Yankees.

Time for one last Metrodome Miracle?
Based on the image of Mauer's bat exploding in the previous at bat against Rivera, that's about what it would take at this point.

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

Well, at least they put up a good fight in the bottom of the 9th.

So long, Metrodome.

Good season, Twins. Making it here was quite improbable. It was entertaining run through the end of the season.

Nonetheless, very dissapointing in the playoffs--so many chances.

That is all I have to say about that.

See you at Target field next year.

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

One of the NYTimes reporters said the Homer Hankies were fewer than he expected, and that part of the reason might be that you had to buy them, rather than the team footing the bill and having one on each seat before the game. Anybody at the game? Does this sound true? I'd like to wait a day or two before reverting back to cranky guy who thinks the owners of the Twins laugh all the way to the bank while we dopes keep showing up for another lovable, scrappy, ooh I hate those evil rich Yankees, we play the game right, 2nd-rate team. Making your fans buy 40-cent towels won't help my funk.

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

Saw something in a glog on cbssportsline.com saying that Mauer's only chance to win a World Series is if he gets off the Twins...and then the guy blamed our pitching staff. If you think that the pitching was the main problem in this series, you are a complete f&*%ing moron. The worst performance from any Twins pitcher came from one of the supposed "best closers" in baseball...TWICE. A guy with a ton of experience...not some rookie. Otherwise it was a couple homers. The only person who got bombed was Duensing...and he has about a half dozen starts in his career.

What a drunk moron...

To the fans that cheered him on (most of them sadly) congrats you are now on par with White Sux fans...bully for you!

It was a nice run and a great ending, now comes the offseason where some serious work needs to be done. Time for ownership to kick it up a notch and make good on some promises!
