2009-2010 Top U19 Teams

Re: 2009-2010 Top U19 Teams

Another Ontario Provincial Championship is in the books, featuring all 20 teams from across Ontario this past weekend. As always, lots of NCAA and CIS scouts in attendance on Friday and Saturday.

Gold--Toronto Aeros
Silver--Bluewater Hawks
Bronze--Mississauga Chiefs

Have to bring this thread back to the first page. Which U19 teams going to Nationals? Polar Bears Little Caesars SSM Mission

Re: 2009-2010 Top U19 Teams

Is NAHA finally eligible? Wouldn't they be competing with the Polar Bears for the New England district?

Re: 2009-2010 Top U19 Teams

Why is it that prep schools are allowed in these tournaments? I know that SSM and NSA are, isn't it supposed to be a youth hockey national tournament?

They won what was originally supposed to be an "Open" Division tourney for Academy and Junior programs, but became a High School/ Prep tourney that went from a 16 plus team field to a four team field when all but two of the Preps found they couldn't field teams because of Tier 1 conflicts.

The "Open" division void of SSM or NSA who are still allowed to compete in the Tier I division

Depends if/how the team is registered with USA hockey. I suspect that SSM and NSA are registered as club/national bound teams. In addition, unlike most NE prep teams, they play a full season schedule.

Meanwhile Down to the Final four in the PWHL. Same three teams above plus Stoney Creek. The Semis are Missy vs Stoney, Aeros vs Bluewater.

This sounds like a lame effort at a compromise. The Open Division sure seems pretty much closed. With SSM and now NSA both in, why couldn't NAHA get a better deal? No Comprendo

That would be a great question for the folks at USA hockey and the VT affiliate. Lame is the correct term for this effort

It's kinda like telling you're little brother, "no you can't play with us cool kids, go play with the geeks over there".

Re: 2009-2010 Top U19 Teams

I'm surprised to find out that prep schools can go to nationals. I don't really think that any prep school should be allowed in this tournament. If you think about it, prep schools are practicing and playing together everyday for months while youth teams might get 2-3 practices a week and most likely won't have all of their players there. Might just be me, but I think there's a very unfair advantage. Don't the prep schools have their own type of league championships?

OMG! They might be getting better practicing together more? Can't have that now, can we? Let's exclude all the good teams so we can tell our mediocre kids they are the best. ;)

Did you just walk out of mite hockey or something? It is hardly news that SSM has been playing at Nationals for more years than I can remember.

Subtle hint, you aren't going to find too many supporters here. The best players want to play against all challengers. The best programs find a way to compete. Welcome to the big leauges.
