2009-2010 Top U19 Teams

Re: 2009-2010 Top U19 Teams

I think you are maybe right but the Pursuit of Excellence Academy out of Kelowna are undeated this year beating NAHA white in the Nepean tournament 5-1.
Also went undeafeated at the Hocktoberfest U19 tournament. I think the Pursuit team is loaded with talent and I hear they have a very young back end with 2 girls grade 10 and 1 girl grade 9. They also have the grade 10 National U18 MVP playing, with U18 team Sask Captain. Would be nice to see them play each other somewhere?
11 players and 2 goalies? tiny roster!!

Re: 2009-2010 Top U19 Teams

I don't think you know your hockey, the pursuit team has talent that is overflowing. They have the U18 MVP Naitonals and Sask teams captain.
They have all very young and talented girls, they have not lost a game and beat NAHA white in Nepean final 5-1. I seen them win the Hocktoberfest U19 Tournament with 9 skaters the whole weekend. They consist of alot of grade 10's and even a grade 9 girl so young and talented. The front end is very powerful grade 12 girls some top in Canada.

Early Can-Am Challenge Cup results this weekend would indicate that Missy and Aeros are formidable (as per my previous predictions). The Aeros-LC matchup coming up should be a good one.

Rochester Challenge Cup Friday Results.

Time Rink Home Away Result
8:00AM 3 LA Mississauga 3-5
7:45AM 4 Chicago Stoney 1-3
9:15AM 4 LC Ottawa 3-0
10:45AM 4 NAHA W Toronto 0-5
12:15PM 4 SJ Whitby 1-2
1:45PM 4 Honeybaked Cambridge 1-2

Re: 2009-2010 Top U19 Teams

The BC Pursuit roster contains 17 players. (Just looked it up on a tournament program book).
my bad. I was going from their website. perhaps they used some girls from the other team....also an incredibly small roster. maybe they just need to update.

Meanwhile Aeros flexing their strength today, 5-0 over NAHA and 2-0 over LC. Missy also won both games, 5-3 over LA and 5-2 over Mission. LC beat the Sens earlier today 3-0. Looks like a picture is starting to emerge that Missy and Aeros are the class of the field from the PW this year. Both clubs are good and deep.

I am interested in how I can find the box scores for the tournament, all I can find are the scores of the games no box scores,so if someone could point me in the right direction,THANK'S

Re: 2009-2010 Top U19 Teams

Well, LA Selects showed again this week they can play with the Big Teams. They beat LC and Mission last week to win the Manon Rheaume tournament in Detroit. Played Aeros this morning and they actually were up 1-0 until late in the 3rd, when the Aeros tied it up to end the game 1-1. Goalie was amazing!

GO LA!

Re: 2009-2010 Top U19 Teams

I think that this series is a great thing, but what is upsetting is not having any BOX scores or even the scores updated on a timely bases. First everybody can't make all if any of the games and box scores tell a person alittle more on how the game progressed so hopefully by next month a few of these problem's can be addressed!!I hope I am not out of line just my 2 cents;)

I'll agree. Although the scores are nice to see a box score tells us a little more and is nice to look over when you can't get to the games. Updates were pretty good yesterday but today nothing has been added. A little frustrating. It would be great if they would incorporate the box score, stats, etc like those of the Stoney Creek Tourney or how they did it when they played in Detroit.;) ;)

The only score that I know is U16 Toronto 3-2 over NAHA red:mad:

GO LA!

Having seen this game, the score was misleading. Aeros actually carried the play in the LA zone for most of the game. I do agree the goalie played amazing, but the teams game strategy was to collapse around their net to block shots and minimize scoring chances, which obviously proved effective. Offensively, LA managed only about 6 shots in the whole game, mostly on the PP. The lone goal LA scored was on the PP and was actually put in by the Aeros D :o

From what I saw, LC was clearly the best team on the American side, with NAHA and Mission likely the next best two.

Overall the Canadian teams fared much better over the weekend than the US teams. LC made it as #1 seed on the US side with only 2 wins, which might have put them as low as 5th on the Canadian side. They were shutout by the Aeros 2-0 and lost to Missy 5-4 on a defensive miscue in the last minute of the game. Stoney was awarded #1 seed on the Canadian side with 4 wins; however given the unbalanced schedule Stoney had an easier draw as they did not have to face LC in the round robin--I'm not actually surprised that LC beat Stoney in the final.

The Aeros beat Mission 7-1 in their final crossover--not sure what the Missy/LA score was.

It's always great to see good (and different!) competition. The big frustration all the teams had over the weekend was the 2 ref system (vs 3), compounded by the fact that the refs could not keep up with the play. Over and over, goals for various teams were waved off after clearly crossing the line before the goalie pulled them out--all because both refs were still 20 feet behind the play.

It looks as though Michigan Hockey is now allowing Little Caesars and Honeybaked to compete in the State Playoffs with a chance to compete at Nationals if successful. Way to go MAHA for making a decision based on the girls and the game.:D :D

Why are they doing that?

Re: 2009-2010 Top U19 Teams

I know quite a bit of hockey. Have actually seen all four of the teams I mentioned play on various occasions already this year, and seen many of these players play at Nats. All four teams are excellent teams.

Have you seen Montpetit play ?. Even with their best player, who was the top scorer in last years U18 worlds, out they won the McGill tournament in fairly convincing fashion going 5-0. They have been ripping it up in the CEGEP league, and won a tournament with University teams in it earlier in the year. 10 of their players have played for team Quebec, many of them for several years. They have one of last years TC U18 goalers and the Top Scorer for TC in U18 worlds last year.

Like wise Missy and the Areos are in a class by themselves in the PW, and met in the final in the Stoney tourney, probably one of the hardest ones to win. Aeros carry 10 players who played in the Final at Nats (7 Red, 3 Blue), and another who played in it last year but no longer age eligible. Missy has six players from Nats.

While NAHA is good, they have not yet set the world on fire, so winning over them may not rank as high as you suggest. NAHA did not get out of the round robin in their own tournament, lost to BC in the Nepean tournament, and lost to Colorado in the JW last week.

So for now I stand by my order for Canadian teams:
1 - Montpetit
2 - Missy
3 - Aeros
4 - BC Pursuit
5 - Several Candidates.

P.S...Done these rankings in the past, and was often close with my predictions. Last year I predicted the Ottawa Sens and Dawson to be top notch. Most disagreed on my Sens evaluation and picked Stoney or the Aeros instead. Sens ended up winning the PWHL championship and Dawson won the Challenge cup, but lost in the Final in CEGEP after being undefeated all year in Quebec. Main reason they lost the final was cause they were missing Poulin who was at worlds.

I think Missy will win the PW this year, with the Aeros in the final, and Montpetit will win the CEGEP loop, provided their top gunner comes back in time for the playoffs. If not, Limiloui will win the CEGEP loop.

P.S.2. IMHO the best player of BC pursuit is the one that was not even playing at Nats (Injury). She would have made a difference for her province for sure.

Time to dust off this old thread...look at my predictions from back in November....

Let's see what happened since....Montpetit is cleaning up in the CEGEP loop. MIssy ans Aeros a clear 1A and 1B in the PW loop and BC pursuit just won the Can-MA challenge over LC in the final. BC Pursuit lost out last weekend at Winterlude, where Missy won the big prize.

I called for BC Pursuit to be one of the top teams back in October and got a lot of naysayers questioning my call.

To give credit where credit is due, "She Scores" also called it that way.
IMHO #8 up front and #19 in the back are both Prime time players. #8 is heading to Cornell, #19 to U of M.

OnMAA....

Re: 2009-2010 Top U19 Teams

IMHO Montpetit number one in Canada.

Aeros, Missy and BC Pursuit next three teams.

Who does Montpetit have that would make them so dominant? I must say I know nothing about them.

I would suggest BC Pursuit would have to be a long way down the list, even if they had every good player in BC: either there is a monumental problem with player selection by the Province of BC, or the talent there just doesn't compare at the moment with whats available in other parts of the country. Team BC losing every game, including 13-0 to Team Manitoba at Nationals??? Ouch.

The top two players from Team Manitoba, Who single handedly almost beat Ontario Red, and the Top player on Team Sask all play on BC pursuit and are all rostered on TC U18. In all 4 players on Team Manitoba, 3 from Team Sask and one from Team Alberta are all rostered on BC Pursuit.

5 ex Team Quebec players (91's) and 5 current Team Quebec players all play for Montpetit, including D'Aoust, Barker and Youville.

I think you are maybe right but the Pursuit of Excellence Academy out of Kelowna are undeated this year beating NAHA white in the Nepean tournament 5-1.

By the U of M do you mean Minnesota or Manitoba?

Manitoba. She is Native and as a result free tuition in Canada. She is IMHO the best U18 D canada has to offer. She missed NATS due to a broken ankle. I saw her nail Waslyk from LC in the boards in the final. This kid is tough, and Waslyk is no small customer. She played with my D in the annual Native camp in Ottawa.
