2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

This GM has traded 1, and the only reason you care is because it was a Gopher. Seriously you have to get over this already it was a good trade to make and you and I both know you would have loved it if the player hadn't been one of us.

And teams should never tank...that is an insult to the fans. If the team isn't going to try and win do the fans get their money back?
Well, Pouliot was a #1 too, but nobody cares that he was sent packing.

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

Yeah but Fletcher didn't draft his worthless ***...plus I think the proper response is WHO??? ;)
Who? Oh, just the worthless bag of pucks that we disguised as a hockey player and used to con the habs out of Bill Tenderness.

I would have liked the trade more if the Wild dove into the deep end & traded Earl. :)

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

They shouldn't tank but from what I've read of the game last night they pretty have without trying.

Maybe I should take the Wild off of the front page of the internet on my phone. When I gave up on the Twins and put Gophers football {sigh} on there instead, the Twins began their miraculous run to the division title!

Anyway, we won't go to the playoffs, but at least Backstrom hasn't given up.

I have a hard time getting excited about a number one pick given this teams track record with them. I know, I know, that's bitterness on my part but when they're just going to trade it away anyway.........{sigh}

Man, do you still hold a grudge for the first wedgie you ever got too, Scooby? LET IT GO ALREADY!!!!!!!!:D

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

The whining about Earl is hilarious. I know its a cute little holdover from his college days, but it might be time to notice that he's producing quite well for the Wild. He has 6 goals while averaging only 8:20 TOI over 24 games. That's 1 goal for every 33:20 on the ice.

For comparison, here's the similar stat for the Wild's top goal scorers (Total TOI/Goals):

Tenderness (32:00)
Brunette (61:27)
Koivu (74:41)

That's pretty impressive, if you ask me. Granted, Earl doesn't have any assists in the bigs this year. But I won't read into that too much. Who is he usually on a line with? Boogaard? Ebbett? Anyone who can score? I know this also means that he's never against top defensive units, but in my mind my point still stands: he's getting a very minimal chance with this club, but he's doing quite well with it.

Plus (and I can only catch so many Wild games in Milwaukee, so I'll defer to you guys on this), his diving problems have vastly improved.

I agree. Each time the Wild has sent him down this season, I've been a little disappointed. I've enjoyed watching him play, he is contributing much more than I expected this season even with limited ice time.

Did I miss something, not scroll down far enough? All I've seen have been some posts poking fun at Earl and his diving rep. No whining. I think you're just a little thin skinned there since he's a former BADger. Hell, even I have gotten over his poor choice in colleges and am a supporter of him and his play.;)

Shhhhhhhhh. Leave him be. Rationale has no place in the minds of BADger fans. Taking offense to an innocent joke from years past is also the norm, apparantly. :D

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

Earl is fine. Plays with a lot of energy and jump, and has one heck of a wrister.

I will always call him "Holy Diver" though, or sing the riff that goes throughout the song. Or both. It's just fun.

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

Wild are apparently signing Casey Wellman, from UMass today. Russo's article in the strib says that 21 teams were trying to sign him, and he chose the Wild. Gotta love that. It is possible that he'll be dressed for the game tonight, but it didn't sound likely.

Quote from the article:
GM Chuck Fletcher, who declined to comment until today, hopes to annually dip into the college free-agent market to augment the Wild’s draft selections. The Wild still has interest in a few other college players still playing.
I like this, a lot.

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

I would prefer if the "Bill Tenderness" thing went away already...I like the "Guillotine" that was christened on GPL. :D

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

It's a nice change. A number of good undrafted players have been signed out of college and the past regime saw fit to pretend it wasn't happening.

It's almost better to do it this way since by the time they've graduated you know what sort of player you're getting. It's good for the Wild to be active in this market.

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

I've heard the kid's name, but I don't know much else about him other than he can score some goals, a welcome addition to this franchise no doubt.

Looking forward to seeing how he can transition the rest of this season.
