2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

No sadly I was sober :(

And if the right offer comes around Burns should be available but I wonder what kind of offers they could get and what the team would want. For a guy like him I would prefer established players over draft picks because he is a very good defensemen now and he is young.
It would definitely have to be a situation where someone is overpaying for him. I still have major reservations about trading him, but if the concussions become a consistent problem, his value is going to plummet, so I'd rather see them get something while he's still got a pretty good reputation.

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

I think the Wild will hover right around 10-11 through the season. Even if they are in striking distance, I really think they should be sellers at this point of the transition. The cupboard is still awfully bare.

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

I dunno being a couple points out of the playoffs makes it tough to justify selling off...especially in this town where the fans are rather fickle. I am not saying you are wrong, just saying if they have a shot at the playoffs they need to go for it...sure it wont lead anywhere but it might go a long way towards really solidifying the base ya know? Plus, seeing as how last season went it would show that the team is not as far away as we all thought.

They can stockpile in the offseason, make moves at the draft for picks and so on. I say make a run when you can...make free agents want to come here and get the fans fully behind this. The Wild could be like the Twins in that regard.

Agreed. Where they are at now, they cannot start selling off, even if it may be the best thing to do when looking forward.

So, the other side of the coin...does anyone see the Wild picking up some players, possibly a big name guy to make a run? They have little to give up, and they guys that they do have, they will want to hold onto, such as Cuma and Leddy. Does Sheppard have any value as a prospect anymore? Personally, I'm guessing they stand pat, hold onto the few high-end prospects that they do have and try to add some picks/prospects in the offseason along with hopefully some decent free agent signings.

My next post at Hockey Wilderness is touching on all of this discussion you're having here. Amazing.

Excellent I can't wait to read it! (I hope you link it)

I dont think they need to make a big move, I mean the Latandresse move was not exactly a barnburner when it first came about and we gave up nothing for him. I think that if a team wants a Sheppard or Gillies they may get someone who can play...I dunno though I am not good at NHL speculation.

The key to this team this year is that guys none of us thought would do anything have. Hnidy has been solid, Stoner was good before his injury, Latandresse has been a diamond in the rough, Miettenen has been fantastic of late, Bodziak and Belanger...hell even guys like Johnnson and Scott have been pretty decent.

I mean this team has played most of the season without one of their top forwards and top defensemen and are in the same position they were last year playing a different style. Hell if not for a disastrous start they would be a solid playoff team right now  They dont need much, a couple of pieces to fill in some spots. The offseason is when they need to make a splash.

JMHO I am probably wrong.

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

It'll be up tomorrow morning. I didn't want to interfere with any of the traffic there for the Avs game.

I don't think you are wrong. You are definitely correct in the fact we all weren't expecting too much this year. (Haha, Riser, how do you like those apples?) However, we are, at times, seeing this team play some great hockey. I sure didn't expect that--especially after the month of October.

I'd love to see a big move, but the reality is there just isn't that much to work with. I wonder if that was the trouble with trying to move Sykora? Did the teams that Fletch was working with want something else, and we really don't have that much else that we can afford.

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

Harding might be shaken up meaning Wade Dubelwhateverthehellisthespellingofhisname might have to play

This will be interesting. Do you think they will let him play in the mini-mites game between periods to warm up?

EDIT: Nevermind, for now, as Hards come out to start the 2nd.

Harding with a SO and a sweet *** goal from Havlatt (one a nice give and go with Brodz) and the Wild get a very rare road victory! I believe Terharr just said it was the Wild's fifth win against the Avs...that is crazy if true!

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

Great game by Harding! Especially since it appeared like he was fighting an injury the entire game.

1-0 Wild :D

Yeah, it did look like he was fighting it a bit. I'll be curious to see his status for Saturday.

Guy is playing great, I hope he has at least one more in him until Backstrom can get healthier.

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

Caught the highlights at nhl.com. By the end of the play where Havlat scored there were, what, four Avs scattered on the ground around the goal? It was amazing! Looked like hockey bowling or something. :D

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

Why what were they saying?

"I hate the Wild they are so boring."

"The Wild kill hockey."

"Typical Wild game, no score."

After that last one I went in and told them the only thing typical about that game was a Colorado loss. I don't think I am welcome back.
