2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

"I hate the Wild they are so boring."

"The Wild kill hockey."

"Typical Wild game, no score."

After that last one I went in and told them the only thing typical about that game was a Colorado loss. I don't think I am welcome back.

I'm surprised they didn't ban you for saying that. They're really good about doing that to dissenters.

Anyhow, here's the link to what I wrote for Hockey Wilderness.

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

What is funny is it wasn't the Wild that were slowing the game down...it was the Avs! They played a full on clog of the neutral zone that would have made Lemaire shed tears of joy :D

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

I'd have to agree with your assessment, as long as the Wild keep the selling limited to the players you mentioned rather than, say, Burns.

While I worry about Burns' health that's always more of a wild card with him and he's certainly someone worth rebuilding around. I think anyone who is unrestricted after this year can be had for the right price and Fletcher, to this point, has shown that he's a very shrewd negotiator and won't make a panic/bad move.

The power is the Wild's hands as far as that goes, they don't have to make a deal but they would if someone is desperate and willing to overpay.

Good article and I agree with a lot of it but I think you focus a bit too much on making the big move which I agree they cannot make. No one move will make this team into a Cup contender. The thing is though they dont need a move they are contenders to make the playoffs as is. They are in the hunt with the team they got, if they add even a decent player (not a Ray Whitney, or a even a Matt Cullen) that could be enough to make a real difference. They better not give up any draft picks for it but hey if they want someone from our squad or someone on the Aeroes maybe make the move. I am fine with them staying pat and playing out the season with the team they have and if the deadline hits and we arent within sniffing distance (within 7 points roughly) then see what the market has to offer. (always be willing to listen but at that point pursue)

Barring a superslump or a megarun their draft pick isnt going to change much so i think that is a bit of a misnomer.

I will say though, the $20 million under the cap this offseason does change my view a bit. I think we all believe Leipold will spend on free agents and that is A LOT of breathing room for some substantial moves. I just worry that the fans in this town will go batchit crazy if they think we are selling off in the midst of a surprisingly fun season ya know?

That's the part of the situation that makes it more fun though. The guys I mentioned were the only ones that have been publicly declared as available. I'm not Eklund and I'm not going to create rumors for the sake of "having a little fun" or anything like that.

Selling off a guy or two if the price is right and the return is good I think would keep fans off the ledge. Fans should understand that the team being as close to the playoffs as they are now is a huge accomplishment in itself. When you look at the roster, this team shouldn't be sniffing at the playoffs at all. They're in a good spot though, they don't have to make any moves and they'll still have that cap space next year with only a handful of RFAs to worry about and won't demand a whole lot.

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

Based on the list of free agents (I saw one way back but dont remember much) who would you think the Wild should maybe be hoping to make a play for...besides Kovalchuk of course. (if they signed him somehow my dad would scalp tickets to every game, he is one of my dads 3 fave players in the league right now)

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

Anyone know what the word on the street is in regards to what it would take to "rent" Kovalchuk for a playoff run? (I'm not saying the Wild could or should do this, I'm just curious)

Atlanta (supposedly) wants a first round pick, a current roster stud player and a prospect.

LA has (again, supposedly) made an offer to Atlanta and Atlanta supposedly made a counter-offer. Atlanta wants Boston's draft pick that they got from Toronto as a starter for any deal with them. So, yeah, the price is pretty steep.

I can't imagine any team willing to give up that much, but I'm sure they're out there.

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

Someone will...the question is whether they will be willing to sign him afterwards. If you are giving up that much you better lock him up for a while.

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

There is no one at the game...

I am sick of legal hits causing fights...if your player is hit hard deal but clean deal with it. Dropping the gloves after it just makes the guy you are defending look like a *****.

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

I hate Dallas. Even when we own them we can't beat them down there.

Clutterbuck has to fight because he laid out Richards on a beautiful and clean open ice hit. The NHL is retarded with this, one of the few things I can't stand.

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

Personally I think Cal Clutterbuck needs to talk to mike tyson or someone to up his fighting. He got his *** kicked there in the end and it kills me seeing the opposing team get the momentum in their favor twice by the same player in a fight.

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

Oh yeah, his fighting sucks. That said neither fight should have happened because his hits were clean. That is asking a lot of a Mark Crawford team though...
