ToskaLOL's contract was up after this year but Blake's $4 million a year goes on through 2012. Yeah, Giguere is worth $6 million a year, but I think they're banking on Francois Allaire (goalie coach) helping him out and Giguere being able to help out Gustavsson as well.

The Leafs gave up a ton of their offense today to Calgary, but this allows them to move a lot of their young guys (Bozak, Stalberg) into more prominent playing roles.

I'm sure Burke's not done. But I like the fact that Bozak and Hanson will get a chance to prove they can play in the NHL. Hell, they can't do any worse than Blake. :mad:

Sorry to see Stajan and White go, but Stajan is only a 2nd or 3rd line center. The deal essentially comes down to White for Phaneuf.

Giggy will mentor Gustavsson, while the sleeper in these Sunday deals could be Keith Aulie. He and Tyler Myers were Pat Quinn's shutdown tandem on the 2009 World Junior team.

Yep, I said a lot of the same below (in the flurry of multiple posts), but the Leafs have a lot of money tied up on their blue line/goaltending, and that's the issue I have with the deals:

Phanuef 6.5M
Komisarek 4.5M
Kaberle 4.25M
Beauchemin 3.8M
Finger 3.5M
Schenn 2.975M (bonuses)
Exelby 1.392M

It just seems a bit crazy to have almost 34M tied up on your defense and goaltending. That's a lot for 8 players!

Olli Jokinen and Brandon Prust to the Rangers for Ales Kotalik and Christopher Higgins.

Rangers win that deal.

Get a fighter than can actually do something else unlike Brashear and get a solid veteran player in Jokinen.

Very happy with this.

Took the words out of my mouth. Rangers might think they're getting a better player in Jokinen but he's been unhappily traded away from three teams in the last two or three years. Jokinen might play well for a few games, but his welcome will wear out fast.

Better than Higgins? Sure, but that's not saying very much and Jokinen did little to nothing while Jarome Iginla was his linemate.

The Rangers deal fell through last night but it sounds like Kotalik has played his last game with the club. He didn't join them to Denver.

I have also seen that Kotalik might have invoked his limited no trade clause which included Calgary. There are other rumors that this is the first part of a 3-team trade which includes Kovalchuk going to Calgary from Atlanta with Kotalik ending up in Atlanta. Who knows??

Whatever it is, it is a major cluster!@#$ by the two GMs.
