Detroit sleepwalks through the first 15 minutes, but one blown D coverage and a couple penalties later, and SJ not only lets them back in it, but almost lets them take the lead.

SJ is soft; sorry, but it's true.

Nabokov gifts Meech a PP goal in the 3rd and Detroit never looks back. Eaves slips in the clincher on a nice pass from Rafalski.

Reading these while sitting at school waiting for my students to come to their lessons that aren't showing up....

My favorite one was "Patrick Marleau was a great Hide 'n Seek player as a kid because no one ever wanted to find him."

I may have to use this on my students if they don't show up...

San Jose does not match up with the Central well. Naturally, they'll get the Wings in a 2-7 matchup come April. I look forward to seeing a 2 seed predicted to lose in 4. If team Canada comes out in Red Wing gear, Nabokov will probably **** himself. I'd start Greiss next week at the Joe, but McClellen's afraid to tell Nabby to sit down and shut up.

I'd trade Clowe for a draft pick or cap space at this point. I'm sick and ****ed tired of seeing him try to set up on the half-wall like he's Joe Thornton. Take your big, lazy, *** and go set up in front of the net like you're supposed to. Nice of the Sharks to play 8 minutes of hockey before running scared, but God, I wouldn't **** on those refs to put out a fire. Inconsistent as hell.

My sources have him going to Pittsburgh, with his salary being paid for by the league to keep the Pens under the salary cap.

There was rumor circling that Boston may try to make a play for him.

Personally, my money is on the Islanders.

And what the Hell does ATL need to do to win a game against Nittimonkey? He is 11-0-0-0 career in Phillips Arena.

In the Jan. 28 game against Chicago, the thing that really stuck out to me was how willing the Sharks were to sit on the 3-3 tie once they overcame the three-goal deficit. There was no killer instinct, no "go for the throat" push after tying the game. San Jose controlled the second period, and the first half of the third, but as soon as the score was knotted, it's like they went into a shell and seemed content to try and get at least the one point (which, obviously, they did).

He's 16-0-0 lifetime against them!

What's that old saying about blind squirrels finding nuts?

Though he has been solid for TB this year, which is about as much of a compliment as you can give any Lightning player whose primary job is to keep the puck out of the net.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

I've changed my mind on this B's-Kovalchuk idea. At first I thought it was a waste of time, and they'd be better off blowing up the team for picks. The more I think about it though, it makes some sense....

Say you deal the Toronto pick and another pick to get Kovalchuk, under the stipulation of course that he'll sign a long term deal. Do you do it? I think so. Get him and pair with Savard and some other spare part (say Lucic) and that's a top notch #1 line that can actually score.

Then the #2 line becomes say Bergeron, Krejci, whoever (Ryder/Wheeler/Julien/who cares). Not exactly the Malkin line but good enough.

Next deal Thomas for a steady stay at home d-man. Lots of team need solid goaltending. Get a #2 defensive defenseman and roll the dice with Rask in net.

That's not a bad team. Its certainly a playoff team then you have to hope the goalie stands on his head or something. Right now, unless they pick up Kovalchuk having Savard around is useless because he's passing to a bunch of fire hydrants. Put him with top level talent and that changes the equation.

Not that I expect the B's do to something this bold.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

Yeah, but how well did the Savard-Kovy combo work for Atlanta?

Hope you don't mind Kovy cherry picking on the PP while the rest of the team is defending against a short handed attack.
