Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

Hang on to your hats today kids, Alex Burrows of the Canucks accused referee Stephane Auger of having a vendetta against him and he vowed to "get him back" for making him look bad in a game earlier this season.

Helping out Burrows' cause: Auger was caught on camera in warmups talking tersely with Burrows and Burrows was hit for three penalties in the third period.

Generally not a good idea to go public with ref grudges, now he'll probably feel the wrath of every ref in the league.

To be fair to Auger....Burrows is a HUGE dick and probably should be told the rules of hockey before every game.

If anyone gets to the bottom of the "NHL Referee's have Vendettas" can they also scour to verify the widely known but always ignored question of what does Bettman and Andrews have against the AHL Chicago Wolves?

Oh, and speaking of incompetency in the NHL:

They probably deserve each other then, considering the early blown goal vs. Dallas for Detroit this year, the 7? men on the ice for Montreal last year, and accusing Shane Doan of being "racist" against francophiles, Auger might be the worst official in professional sports. I'm astonished they let him and LaRue work games <strike>together. </strike>

Both of these statements are 100% accurate. Burrows is a scumbag but Auger is apparently God-freakin-awful-terrible at his job as fans were able to dig up numerous occasions where his judgment was called into question.

Quote of the week over at Fear the Fin today in a post discussing how the Sharks suck when it comes to secondary scoring outside of Heatley and Marleau.

3) 38.19% of goal scoring output from Marleau and Heatley? That's worse than the time I figured out I could use a normal sized water bottle as a fleshlight. You're **** right-- wait, what? Dear god.

Entertaining first period between the Rangers and the Debbies. If you've got Vs. and nothing to do tonight, it might be worth tuning in.

Pfft. Amateur. I once saw Brian Thul give four penalties to Jon Kalinski purely out of spite.

You know who I miss from the NHL? Mike Ricci.

Ah crap. Great game, though, objectively.

Might be the game of the year so far.

Great skating by both teams. Almost zero crap. Great flow.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

Indeed!

Patrick Elias is a cold-hearted mofo. Looked like he was just taking a shot during pregame warm-ups, even after he scored to win the game (on replay, he did give a little fist pump).

Shows what the shootout means to the players.

A tie would've been a perfectly acceptable outcome for that game. It reminded me of Minnesota-Mankato in the WCHA Playoffs a couple years ago. Scoreless yet high-paced and lots of shots. Great to watch.

The producer of Penguins hockey on FSN Pittsburgh has been suspended indefinitely for this.
The producer, Lowell MacDonald Jr., is the one-time lead hockey producer at ESPN and is the son of former Penguins forward Lowell MacDonald.

FSN Pittsburgh, which carries all Penguins game except those televised by NBC and Versus, said in a statement Tuesday that there "is nothing more important than the integrity of the game.""During last Thursday's game against the Philadelphia Flyers, a definite replay of a Flyers goal was not aired prior to the conclusion of the official review and, as a result, a Flyers goal was not awarded,"

MacDonald Jr., 45, joined FSN Pittsburgh in 2006 after previously working for ESPN and on Buffalo Sabres telecasts. His father scored 140 goals for the Penguins from 1970-78.
