Yes, but I think the people that needed to know knew. Elsewise, there would have been no reason that the Wings would have flown directly to California from Phoenix.
Thursday or Sunday game, I figured that the Wings were taking Red Bird One directly to San Jose. No point to come home to go right back west.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Playoffs Thread Part II: Dan Boyle's fate rests in the balance...

I heard a stat this morning and I wish I could remember the details where that's the first road game 7 win for Detroit in like forever.

I heard the same piece of data as well. The point also was made that Detroit has been hosting, rather than playing on the road, in seventh games for quite some time. For much of the 1990s to the present, Detroit was in/has been in the position of hosting seventh games. Its regular season success is a large factor in why Detroit hasn't had to win a seventh game on the road in quite some time.

I am a lifetime Montreal fan with no bias for or against Detroit, but I must say, this Detroit team has so many players with vast Stanley Cup playoff experience that I think it can overcome the perceived or real difficulty of playing a seventh game on the road.

I live in Denver and watch many of the Avalanche games on TV. The Avs won game one on the road versus San Jose. In game two the Avs surrendered a goal in the final minute of the first period, the final minute of the second period and the final minute of the third period to allow the Sharks to force the game into overtime. The Sharks eventually won the game. Colorado coach--Joe Sacco--made some tactical errors regadring defensive pairings he used late in each period. Having said that, the Avs came t-h-i-s close to taking a 2-0 lead in their series against San Jose.

The Avs found a way to win a game in San Jose. My own opinion is that Detroit is a better team than Colorado and can find a way to win a game in the Shark Tank.

And good luck to Les Habs tonight against what I think will be an angry, determined bunch of Capitals. ;)

Not sure what to make of it (read: not too much), but Dave Stubbs (Montreal Gazette) said this about the Canadiens as they arrived for their pre-game skate:

#Habs have arrived at the Verizon Center. You want to see game faces? Wow

Unlike years past, you've got a lot of Championship experience in the room for Les Boys.

On the Caps side, Karl Alzner is in for Poti (broken face), and will be paired with Carlson (interesting choice, I think).

Walker may be in for Fleischman.

Howard said it best in his post-game interview last night. You go in aiming to split the first two games on the road, though two wins would be nice to have.

I don't expect them to win tonight. But I can't say a MTL win this evening would totally shock me, either.

I expect Washington to win this evening and a Montreal victory would shock me, pleasantly so. Since recent posts in this thread have included the subject of road wins in seventh games of series, I wonder when Montreal last won a Game Seven on the road. I don't know the answer. Anyone have the answer to that? :)

TV guys already know the schedule. San Jose has updated their website.

They added "Live on Versus."

If Halak is anything less than stellar, Washington will pound them. Of course, if Varlamov/Theodore shows up like dog crap, then forget it.

That said, if the Caps can get through this round I really think they'll roll into the ECF for a likely showdown with Pittsburgh. Boston can beat Pittsburgh as the Pens struggle mightily with, ahem, trap teams - but they do have the much better talent. If Boston decides to man up against the Penguins they can win though.

Montreal beat Boston in Game 7 in 2004 on the road; also rallying from a 3-1 hole.

I don't think there is any outcome (blowout or close win by either team) that would shock me tonight. The Canadiens have played the best team in the league 10 times this year and are 5-4-1.

Obviously would like to see them win, but I'll have no complaints if they lose. They've done the franchise proud.

Martin still needs to go though, right?

*dons tinfoil hat*

Expect the Caps get all the calls tonight. Herr Bettman can't allow the dirty and storied Habs to knock off the Washington Jr. Penguins. :D

Doesn't matter, the refs can't put the puck in the net for the Capitals, even if they give them PPs.

Oh yes; without question, in my mind. I'm not going to say the series would be over if he wasn't coaching, but for every good decision he's made, there's been an equally curious one. I'd love to have Boucher take over; however, they gave JM a fat deal and I think we're stuck with him until the team implodes. Unfortunately, they look to be a team that will finish betwwen 6th-10th for the forseeable future. In other words, just good enough to not get the coach fired.

More than anything else, this is the story of the series for me - the Caps being 1-30. That's amazing. If they connected at their regular season rate, they'd have another 7 PPG this series.

That being said - Montreal's PK was pretty solid all year.

It's not just the PK, this is a fundamentally awful PP, especially on the 5 on 3. No one wants to move, they all want to pass around the puck like its a hot potato before someone (usually Ovi) takes the shot from the point which never makes its way to the net, its usually blocked or misses the net completely.

Wash rinse repeat.

You would think after 6 game sof this they might try something different. I'm hoping they go back to more of the same.

Fun fact on Mike Green: In his last 24 playoff games, he has.... one goal.

Mike Green is so bad, I wonder if he is a secret agent for the Habs.
