I'm guessing this is more of a GTFO "retirement", and he's just going to take the chance to call it a career rather than chase another Cup.

Nice Freudian slip though. ;)

2nd year in a row of this.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Playoffs Thread Part II: Dan Boyle's fate rests in the balance...

This is the thing that worries me about the <strike>Hawks</strike> Predators tonight... They are facing a rookie goalie who doesn't know that he's playing over his head and has been all series... <strike>Rinne</strike> Niemi has downright stopped the <strike>Hawks</strike> Preds for the most part... They don't get as many quality chances as they are used to seeing... The <strike>Hawks</strike> Preds can't get frustrated with this and start giving the puck away trying to make things happen...

If they get sloppy at the end of the 1st and into the 2nd period like they have done all series, it could potentially be game over for them

Fixed your spelling, and your post. The way you worded it, both teams could use this as their baseline.

I had an interesting discussion with a co-worker (huge 'Hawks fan) about this game, and I mentioned how it's a shame that Niemi came along a year too late for this team. Would have been nice to have the Niemi/Huet problem last season in where the team earned their stripes as a whole, then Niemi wouldn't be on the accelerated learning curve he is this season.

I think the 'Hawks felt they drew a first round bye and were quite surprised at how resilient the Preds are. How quickly the half the team that played against Milwaukee as Rockford Icehogs forgot this. They also seemed to have forgotten that Rinne is weak high stick-side.

I'd really like to see the Preds come out on top (greedy selfishness aside), but either team is going to have to work for it.

That's just gamesmanship from Martin, which is ridiculous. You don't call a kid up (your last call up, at that) in a crucial game where he fits an obvious need and have him watch. He'll be in the lineup - I've been listening to Team990 all day and they're saying its pretty much assured.

You'd think. Then again this is Martin we're talking about. RDS now has him as in the lineup, so this is good.

Can't we just fire Martin now and bring in Boucher from Hamilton, before he goes to Tampa or Columbus?

Pretty Please?

I confused why many seem to be applying this theory to Chicago, but not to other teams that have "struggled" with a lesser-seeded opponent in this round. These two teams played six times this season (with both teams shutting the other out once, and both teams posting a three-goal win once), and there is universal respect amongst the Blackhawks for a guy that is probably the NHL Coach Of The Decade (if such an award existed). If anyone was familiar with Nashville and what they're capable of, wouldn't it be Chicago?

They basically played to a standstill in Game 1 with the exception of a fluky bounce and, with the exception of a curious no-show in Game 3, I find it hard to fault the Blackhawks for much in the first five games. Can't we just give Nashville credit for playing a terrific series, rather than jumping to the conclusion that Chicago overlooked them?

Regarding tonight: I think there's blood in the water, the Preds are forced to open their game up facing their first deficit of the series, and the Blackhawks finish them off.

I'd sure love it if that last line were true, but do you really think the Preds are going to change their style that much? I'm not sure I would if I was in their position.

They're not going to become the Capitals, but I think it's human nature to gamble a bit more when playing with your season on the line.

Savard is confirmed out for tonight's game. Hoping we'll see him in the next round.

Marco Sturm hits iron on the shorthand. That should have been 1-0

Bad turnover right off the bat, and Halak has to come up huge....

Boston with more chances shorthanded than Buffalo on the PP.

Bad call. Tallinder kept that in.

Another chance for Boston.
