Re: 2009-2010 NHL Playoffs Part 1: How will the Sharks screw it up this time?

If this has been covered before, I apologize....

Tonight's Versus Schedule is...

7:00 Ottawa @ Pittsburgh
9:30 (JIP) Nashville @ Chicago
11:00 (JIP) Detroit @ Phoenix
12:30 (JIP) Colorado @ San Jose

So, if I'm reading this correctly, you'll get to see the whole Ottawa-Pittsburgh game, and barring no overtimes, the Nashville-Chicago game will come on next early in the 2nd period. After that game, Detroit-Phoenix will be shown, also starting early in the 2nd period(barring no overtime). Finally, the Colorado-San Jose will come on early/midway in the 3rd period(again, barring no overtimes).

Basically, my main question is, are the games shown in full on NHL Center Ice. I don't have that at home, but do at work. I just think this is a horrible way for Versus to do business.

If you have centre ice you can watch the entire game of any game you want. It will be on an alternate channel or on the web site if you order it that way.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Playoffs Part 1: How will the Sharks screw it up this time?

I'm wondering if Versus has the capability to regionalize their coverage? In other words, will I, being close to Chicago, be able to see the full game on VS?

Are you in the Chicago Sports Net market? The game will likely be blacked out in the Chicagoland area forcing you to watch on CSN-Chi.

If the ability to regionalize is possible, I'd rather watch the whole Detroit/Phoenix game.

For people who don't have Center Ice and would like to watch the other games that are out of your market tonight:

www.atdhe.net

Virus free, great website to watch live sports. It may be a tad bit behind the real broadcast so be careful if you're perusing the web and don't want to be notified of results before they actually come on the screen.

Great picture quality too.

Another great site if atdhe isn't working well or if the streams get taken down:

There are usually at least 4 broadcast options per game.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Playoffs Part 1: How will the Sharks screw it up this time?

From Puck Daddy:
Sports Media Watch has the tentative Stanley Cup Final schedule and reports that Game 2 and Game 5 will be up against the same games in the NBA Finals. It's also the second straight season the NHL is going with back-to-back games to open the finals and doing the NBC-VERSUS-NBC scheduling thing. Game 7 of the finals would be June 18; what better way to celebrate the Summer Solstice three days later than with ice hockey?

The Stanley Cup Finals will also run during the World Cup...

Double you tee eff? Game 7 of the finals is June 18?? I'm really getting sick of them stretching out these series.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Playoffs Part 1: How will the Sharks screw it up this time?

I think the fact that they run during the World Cup is a little irrelevant.

Not for casual viewers, they're going to be drawn to ESPN. Not Versus/NBC. The World Cup starts June 11, giving a full week of Stanley Cup games competing against a HUGE juggernaut of sports.

*edit* Then again, two of the Stanley Cup games are lined up (right now) to be played the same day as the NBA finals, yet another sport that seems irrelevant to us fans of Hockey but draws better in the ratings.

Let's just face the facts that the NHL does everything wrong.

Oh, I wasn't coming it at from the "Meh, Soccer sucks" angle. I actually like both sports.

I'm just saying, the times for the World Cup games will be one at 9 in the morning and one at noon. Over by 2 or 3 o clock. So, it's not going head to head with hockey.

Now, you could make the argument that having soccer on TV during the day prevents them from doing NHL coverage on Sportscenter or something, which is probably true, but if the NHL is relying on a 5 minute Barry Melrose Sportscenter segment to drive up viewers, they may be out of luck.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Playoffs Part 1: How will the Sharks screw it up this time?

How the hell did they managed to push the hockey playoffs into two full months like that?

Basketball has that problem, but they have 3-4 days off between games half the time.
