Just lock them in a room.

Not "until they elect a Speaker". That requires them to grow up and act like adults and we know that'll never happen. Just keep them in there. When there's only one left, that person can come out and gavel in the House so Jeffries can take over.

I have told this story before but when Emmer was about to be nominated for the GOP candidate for Governor they had the convention at the Minneapolis Convention Center and my buddy and I were set to bartend his victory party. Well there was all sorts of craziness that night and the party didn't start until we almost had to close. Because of this I got a chance to look at all the pictures of him and his family (a Stepford Family to be sure) and he had an alarmingly high number of pictures of Sarah Palin. (2 years after she destroyed McCain's bid) If that guy is a RINO I am an All-Pro QB.
 
I just had the realization that if Palin had won back in November 2022 it's certainly possible she'd be one of the nominees.

Talk about a dodged bullet...

He has all the numbers from Heritage. They all do for the most part. They only vary on the level of worship to the Orange God.

This is it entirely.

Trump didn't get the guy he wanted (Jordan), so now he's going to spoil people until the party is sufficiently supplicant.
 
So the local news is covering it- and they way they said "they are searching for a new speaker" makes it sound like it's an Amber alert. Which is probably pretty accurate, all things considered.

Yeah...no deals. If I thought there was someone they could help (even by voting present) who would allow for the normal course of business to happen I might change my mind but it just isn't possible. No matter who "wins" they will never work with the Dems on anything even if they want to. The Dems will be in no better position by helping than by not helping so screw it.

I know people are gun-shy after 2016. But the past couple of years have solidly shown that Dumpy is NOT a winner in General Elections. Yes, he wins 90% of the vote in the redneck districts, but overall it's a 60/40 split for him on a good day. There is too much overall Purple to support him in the EC. With the way things are going for him, if the area isn't bright Red, Dumpy isn't carrying it.

Honestly...there is only 1 reason I can think of that it hasn't happened. He doesn't have the votes either for any number of reasons. Now that seems off since he is far and away the leader of the party but I honestly think there is more than 4 people who don't want it on the record that they voted for him for Speaker. Maybe they are in Purple districts, maybe they try and project the idea they aren't crazy, maybe they have always hated him and hate what he turned the party into, maybe they know he will cause way more chaos than the House (or his candidacy) can stand going into an election cycle (one they will struggle with anyways) or that his pending legal issues will make it difficult...but I would honestly bet he loses too.

And here is the thing, if he thought he would win he would be pushing it too. While he will likely be the final nail in the coffin for the GOP House in '24 it is everything he wants leading up to his run at President. He becomes a full on chaos agent and gets non-stop media time to rip everything and everyone without having to do it on TS or behind his lawyers. The only reason not to make a play is if you know you might lose which will then basically make him look even worse heading into '24.

That and I do think there’s still some Republicans that believe in precedent. If they nominate a non-elected SotH, nothing’s stopping the Dems from nominating someone like Hilary Clinton or Michelle Obama or (insert any D name here) when they get it back. Then the US will be a true Banana Republic.

I think it’s the leadership in the House GQP trying to desperately cling to what little power they may have. Better to fight amongst themselves than to concede basically everything to Dump.
