I’d say Newsome would be ectastic to have John Edwards written all over him. Newsom, on the other hand…

I hope we avoid Newsome. He has John Edwards written all over him.

This week he vetoed a bill that would require judges in custody disputes to consider a parent's affirmation of their child's chosen identity. Looking at this from a (**) POV, I think it's an interesting tack.

I think he brings up a lot of good points in his veto letter. A child's safety should already include looking at gender identity vs. a parent's capacity to provide a safe environment for the child. I would hope that a professional assessment is part of that consideration.

That said, I think he's probably wrong to veto this. The idea that Texas could consider a parent's affirmation to be evidence of being a negative is going to happen regardless of whether he vetoed this or not. We need to stop thinking "What if Republicans ______?" in every situation. Because in the overwhelming number of cases, the answer is going to be "they will" regardless of whether we do something.

anyways, it's interesting to kind of lurch back towards "center" here. Trans rights should be a fundamental platform in the Democratic platform.

**I'm drawing a complete blank for the word I want to use here. Jaded, devoid of emotion, impersonal, strictly political, almost malevolent. I keep thinking it starts with an S. Anyways...

We should never factor Republicans into our plans. Their responses are not substantive. Neither they nor their voters have a seat at the table of American democracy anymore. They have sacrificed the right to be considered because they are no longer in our social contract.

That is what their Dumpy tantrum cost them. There is no recovery for them.

Yep. Which is why I think this veto is such an unforced error. The blowback is going to be fairly strong. Certainly within California. I'm not sure you can win the nation if your own state hates you, doubly so if it's the largest state in the union.

Well, Schumer steps on his own dick by giving some mealy mouthed not-defense of Menendez. I know he's just playing the political numbers game, but come on. Do the right thing.

No shit. This one really pisses me off. This is really easy. Throw him off the building

Yep. Way to brick the layup, folks. There is literally no actual reason not to demand his resignation. Not morally or politically. Yet, nope.

Now would be a good time for gillibrand to start a resignation campaign

I read today fetterman is only senator who has called for resignation. Pathetic

something something "distraction from his deep insult to the solemnity and sanctity of the senate chambers with his... clothing choices" something something

Typical. ****ing Democrats can NEVER GET OUT OF THEIR OWN ****ING WAY.

This is a rather atypical backslide to the incompetence of the older Clintionista Democrats. They have been much, much better since 2017. This is criminally stupid and corrupt at the level of Texas Republicans re: Paxton.
