I mean the presumptive GOP nominee is begging for a shutdown to help defend the investigations into him so even if he had a brain his lack of spine would prevent him from doing that.

The minute he does, is the minute he's no longer Speaker. Qevin desires being Speaker more than anything in the world. Even more than a quickie in the closet with Bobo.

Again, a competent Speaker would tell them to go pound sand and reach out to Jeffries and work out some compromise. Jeffries is under no obligation to help McCarthy, but depending on the offer, it may benefit everyone.

McCarthy's main issue - even above the numbskulls - is that he can't get out of his own way. He's boxed himself in so badly by being so aggressively anti-Democrat.

He would only do that for the good of the country; it would end his political career.

No Republican, Member or voter, has acted for the good of the country in my lifetime.

Democrats never included an option to vacate the Chair when they made rules for the House with Pelosi in charge. (Because they're not idiots.) Therefore, she could go to the handful of GOP moderates left for votes on occasion. McCarthy offered his testicles to Gaetz &Company to be allowed to put his name on the office door. No surprise they slam them on him repeatedly.
