2026 WJC

Fantastic result haha. Can't stand Hockey Canada.

Did the ancestry thing a few years back and am 91% Czech and 9% Swede.

Go Czechia!
I tried that Ancestry.com test four times. Each I received notice that my test failed during the sequencing process. I now believe that I’m simply 100% fu—ed up.

christ on a cracker, those games were fun.

I hate that the first one ended in a shootout, and despite being a Dallas draft pick, I feel for Hemming and Rimpinen.

Never in my life have I seen two penalty shots in a row, and Canada botched them both

Heja Sverige! tomorrow is gonna be a game.

In a Portland Winterhawks game in 98, IIRC at Tri Cities, they were given a penalty shot with :01 left in the third, converted to tie the score, then another one in overtime, converted, and won.

In the next game, back at home, they were given another penalty shot in overtime, but missed. I want to say Marty Standish took all three shots but it may have been Bobby Russell. That team was magical and won the Memorial Cup.

yes, none of those prima donnas took losing well, but he came apart
Many years ago, I remember the U18 team coming to Houghton for an exhibition game while I was still a student. At one point I swear half their bench was in the box because they whined so much about the officiating (well, and the fact they were losing to an awful team at the time).

there's a lot to be said about how the euro teams play more collectively than the north americans

Canada has same issue as we have, its a rich persons game now

but I'll have my final thoughts on all this tonight after the gold medal game

Other countries, too. Wasn't it Dahlin who was the Swede who threw his silver medal into the crowd because "he didn't want it"?

Not quite enough.

The Czechs have now, in three incarnations, won 18 WJC medals:

2 gold (2000, 2001)
7 silver
9 bronze

They are the only team to medal in each of the last 4 WJC:

4 CZE 0-2-2
3 USA 2-0-1
2 SWE 1-1-0
2 CAN 1-0-1
1 FIN 0-1-0
0 RUS 0-0-0 ... Fuck you.
