Things you've learned as a parent...

Those feelings you’re secretly feeling of depression, sadness, anger, etc…are real. They’re aren’t directed at anybody, so please try not to misplace them. They are accompanied by feelings of joy, elation, pride, etc. and are occurring at the same time causing conflict. Acknowledge them, but try to ignore them. It’s real, but it’s also the best feeling in the world when you know why they are there.

I was 42 when my daughter was born, my only child. I don’t know what it’s like to have a kid at a younger age, but I know it would be really tough to have another at this age.

I mean, I was in my 20s when my daughter was born and there were times I had to power through but it wasn’t exactly a cakewalk.

I’d probably die if we had another one now.

<3.5 weeks. But I’m taking the under on even 3. Call it a hunch.

we have a first name. But we’re still debating the middle name. My wife wants to give him my name. I’m less inclined. I don’t feel like I’ve earned that. (But she does have one strong argument, the two names together sound really good. So I’m coming around on it.)

My mom already guessed the name. Which I have no fucking clue how. It’s somewhat uncommon, but not without precedent on either side of my family.

Anyways, everything is set. Just need to pack a go bag. I’m getting antsy. I just want to meet the guy.

“Mom, I’m not naming my son Benito Mussolini! …I don’t care if it’s a family name!”

Oh man, Cheers!

Carla Tortelli-LeBec: Mama. I'm not rejecting you. I just don't want to name one of my sons Benito Mussolini.
Mama Lozupone: [incredulous] Why not?
Carla Tortelli-LeBec: Because, back a few years, there was another Benito Mussolini. Remember him?
Mama Lozupone: I don't see why one fascist dictator should ruin it for the entire family.
Carla Tortelli-LeBec: Mama, you are the only one who even cares about that stupid name. Everyone else agrees with me, right?
Zia: Oh, you're an ungrateful child.
Sal: You make me sick.
Angeline: Bitch!

Good luck!!!! Can’t wait to hear all your war stories.

We are now in agreement on a name.
And we have a pediatrician.
And we have our go bags packed.

I think that’s everything…?

Just need to do meal prep this weekend.

So…my daughter is 5, and she still has a nuk habit. She has a list of favorites, but being her father’s daughter, she keeps misplacing them. My wife is trying to help her find the missing favorite nuk of the week, and I hear the following exchange…
Daughter: “Mom, you found a nuk!”
Wife: [Playing, nuk in her mouth]: “What? No I didn’t!“
D: Yes you did, I can see it!
W:: Oh, this one? [Removes it from her mouth.]
D: [Whining because she’s tired and it’s late], I don’t like that one anymore!
W: Why?
D: I’ve not liked it since I squashed a beetle with it!
W: [Long pause…] Was it recent?
(At this point I’m trying really hard to not crack up, and failing.)
D: [Says something I couldn’t understand. ]
W: Well, I hope I don’t get sick soon.

And thus is when I lose it! 🤣

If you have any pets, bring something of the baby’s home before you bring the baby home, and put it in shared spaces. It’ll give the animal time to get used to the baby’s smell and not try to kill them. It’s a new experience for the pets too. The room that my cat took over was eventually my daughter’s room (out of necessity) and my poor cat thought we were getting rid of him, but grew to be her best friend until his death in 2023.

No pets. Dog maybe in a few years

But thanks for thinking about this. Our furred family members have it rough sometimes.

Thanks burd.

If anyone repeats this I’ll swear it’s a slanderous lie. But if the kiddo wants to be a pilot, there’s really only once choice. Otherwise it’s “you can go wherever you want, but we’ll only pay for Minnesota”. :-D

We’re scheduled for a 7/4-7/6 due date now. Getting awfully close.

In all seriousness, if I had continued pursuing a career as a Part 121 pilot after HS, odds are I'd probably be a Bronco fan today. Bowling Green has a good pilot mill as well, one of my HS best friends who now works for United went there. There was a guy who graduated 2 years ahead of us who went all the way up to UND.

I would 100% send anyone who wants to be an airline pilot to one of those three before I took out loans to pay $45,000/yr for Embry. 🤮

Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled parenting stories/encouragement. Good luck, dx.
