University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

Michigan State encountered that problem last season, winning four of five against Michigan including the Big Ten title game, only to lose to the Wolverines in a sixth matchup, the NCAA regional final. Same thing happened with BC-BU in 2006. Terriers won four of five, then the Eagles beat them 5-0 in the Worcester regional.
Maine played Mass 5 times almost in a row once. 2 to end the season. 2 to start the HE tourney. Lost them all. First round of NCAAs we beat someone else and then right back against Mass for the regional finals in Rochester. Finally won that one as Bishop returned from injury.

Thinking of flying up Tampa to Allentown. Decisions decisions. $350 roundtrip not bad, tickets from $50 for the cheap seats up to $175. Anyone going?
I'm thinking of flying over from Warsaw - I have family in the area but I need to find a flight at a better price than what I'm seeing - Yikes! Last regional I attended was 2004 in Albany and it was quite the experience! Worth it for those who can make the trip.

I live in the Lehigh Valley, would definitely recommend Newark over Philly flight and travel wise. Straight shot on route 78 from Newark to Allentown. Looking forward to packing the house with Maine fans Friday night, should be a great atmosphere for a regional.

Wish I could go have a full on remodel going on at home and the wife let me go to Boston but can't do this one. Will consider getting extorted and going to St Louis if they make it.

Quinnipiac fan thinking they have an "very winnable bracket"

Keep an eye on Cornell. Those freaking guys seem to rise to the occasion last couple years they could do a major upset

Technically they are correct… very winnable bracket for Maine! 😆

Thanks for the reminder. I had forgotten about 2007 in Rochester, NY.

I can just visualize Shane standing on his head and his teammates clutching and grabbing all night, then beating Michigan State 1-0 on a fluke goal around 4:30 a.m.

Anyone else notice on the ncaa selection show that Colby Cohen and Andrew Raycroft both picked upsets in the Maine lead bracket. Still no respect for Maine. I hope the boys feed of this doubt and it motivates them to prove these doubters wrong.
In Reality Maine hasn't been very successful in years so I can understand that lack of confidence in Maines ability to win in a regional. Not sure who they picked but Quinnipiac has had a lot of success lately so easy to go with them. More bulletin board material if you ask me

I don't think it's crazy to pick an upset in the region. Maine should absolutely be the favorite to come out of the region but if you asked me to pick between Maine and the field, I'm taking the field.

It could be an all HE FF. BC is a virtual lock. If the good BU shows up for an entire weekend, they could go to St. Louis. If Maine doesn't win Allentown, UConn will. That leaves UMass, which is the weak HE link here, but it could happen. The Bi6lies and NaCHo fans would have a coronary!

My picks:

Denver (over BC)
Western Michigan (over UMass)
Maine (over Quinnipiac)
BU (over Michigan State)

Maine over BU
Denver over Western Michigan

Maine over Denver

Yup....a rematch of the awesome series with Denver.....with a rematch in Denver next season to boot. 🙂

BC def. Bentley
Denver def. Providence

Mich St def. Cornell
Ohio St def. BU

Western def. Mankato
UMass def. Minnesota

Maine def. PSU
Conn def. Quinnipiac

My homerific picks. Of that path, Michigan State scares me the most. But if Maine plays the way they played in the Hockey East tournament they could very feasibly do it. Should be a great tourney this year.

My Final Four picks are Maine, Michigan State, Denver, Western Michigan.

Maine over Western Michigan in the Championship game.

Think it should be a really great tournament even if Maine doesn't win it.
