2024 Elections: One Last Chance for Democracy

In Howell (a city with a racist history, where a small neo-Nazi group demonstrated last month), and with uniformed police in the background.

They literally have no idea how to connect with anyone who is outside the cult. They truly believe that 80% of America is like them and that the 20% that isn't is Black/Brown and poor.

And as you and I both know, there are still a number of middle aged dudes in the wild who just assume all us white guys are onboard the MAGA trainwreck, then act gobsmacked and hurt when it comes out that we aren't. Christ, I can remember arguing about Hillary with a farking Canadian in the Minneapolis Hilton lobby 8 years ago.

Alaska’s primary was yesterday. Our primaries are jungle, everyone in primaries with the top 4 advancing to the RCV general election, so the results can be seen as a bit of a glimpse into things.

In our House seat race, Democrat Mary Peltola was just a shade over 50% in the early results (a very good result). Like two years ago, the two leading Republicans are basically fighting the other to drop out. Nick Begich has about 27% and Dump endorsed candidate Nancy Dahlstrom has 20%.

Things are looking pretty good for that race at least.

This is why “they’re weird” line hits so hard, it’s literally world shattering to these people to be perceived as “weird” when they’ve molded their whole existence into believing that they’re the “real America”.

Running a second event in Milwaukee, home of the RNC, and selling it out while also having a huge crowd at the DNC is just a chef's kiss of a troll job!

I caught some of this while on break (we have a janitor and a maintenance guy who are usually the first in the break room and set the TV to Fox News for this break every day).

It was strange. Dump actually had a script/notes in front of him on the podium and he kept reading from that. It really stood out to me that he was trying to "tone things down" with this talk.

It makes me wonder if someone close to him sat him down and straight up told him that if he keeps firing from the hip and spewing BS, he has ZERO shot at this.

I can't recall him being this toned down for an appearance before. Very monotone voice. He seemed uninterested in any interaction with the crowd. He really did seem like a child who was forced to read in front of class, but wanted nothing to do with talking that day.

He's acting defeated because he thinks everyone wants to hear his unhinged, senile rants about himself and everyone who has "wronged" him. In reality, even some of his 2020 voters are starting to see that MAGA is all about Donald and his bottom line. He's got nothing new to offer. These are the people who are likely to just stay home this time, while jamming a crown of thorns on their head and cosplaying as a politically "independent" victim of the "uniparty".

And where's Trump campaigning today? A town in the middle of fcking nowhere between Greensboro and Charlotte that is in one of the reddest counties in the entire state. A Democratic POTUS candidate hasn't carried Randolph County since FDR in 1940, and Carter was the last Democrat to even break 40 percent of that county's vote.

The fact that he has to campaign in NC at all is very bad for Donald - that's less time spent in PA and MI. The fact he's campaigning in deep red exurbs and rural outposts like Howell and Asheboro says that they're nervous about keeping his core voters motivated, which means his internal polling must really be sagging.

One of the postmortems for Alaska’s primary election was that progressive and Democratic candidates did better than expected but with only around 20% turnout it’s misleading because it just means left leaning voters were more energized and motivated. Like, uh, isn’t that kind of a story there guys?

"It's not weird to prefer an exclusionary monoculture dominated by people who look and think exactly like I do! It's not weird to fetishize firearms and go around talking about a second civil war! It's not weird to want to disenfranchise more than half the country! It's not weird to target and harass vulnerable minority groups who pose no actual threat to me or my way of life! It's not weird to want to impose my religious beliefs on everyone else through secular legislation!

I'm normal dammit!"

Not sure putting him out in front of undecideds for them to see what he has to say in long form, in-person is his best strategy.

Better off having him in front of friendlies where you can manufacture good optics and them pump out soundbites and memeable clips.

I doubt it's that. He just needs his ego stroked, and so has to appear in front of his adoring fans to bask in their adulation. Takes his mind off how badly Kamala's gonna smoke him.

Problem is even they look bored ;)
