Colgate 22-23

from Colgate University. Free tix:
"Women’s Hockey
Second-seeded Colgate will host No. 7 Princeton in a best-of-three series for the ECAC Hockey quarterfinals this weekend. Admission is free for all fans. Game times are Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m., and if necessary, Sunday at 3 p.m. The winner goes on to the ECAC Hockey semifinals the following weekend."

Let's all turn out for our team!! Go 'Gate!

Congrats to Princeton, they did exactly what they had to do. We need to be ready tomorrow or that could be the season as Princeton is unranked

Hats off to Princeton. PPG, 17 blocked shots, overcame deficits twice. Better team today. Colgate can’t hold 2 leads or score an even strength goal, just sad. What a time to lay an egg. That’s playoff hockey. The series against OSU spoke volumes. The Buckeyes would not have lost this game. I doubt Yale would, either.

Even if Princeton won tomorrow, Colgate likely would still be a top-four seed into NCAAs. Maybe there is a scenario where Northeastern would pass the Raiders, but I'm too lazy to look for it.

One scenario involves Colgate getting swept, Northeastern winning Hockey East, and Quinnipiac or Clarkson winning the ECAC. I'm not sure why Yale losing hurts Colgate's NPI, but it's significant.

Another is if Colgate does not make it to the ECAC final, and Wisconsin wins the WCHA. It doesn't matter who wins the ECAC; Minnesota and Wisconsin both finish ahead of Colgate.

Auto-fill the bracket, then make the changes to reflect yesterday's NEWHA 'upsets', 'St Anselm in 3' and 'Franklin Pierce in 3'. Then 'Princeton in 2'. That leave Colgate just a bit in front of Northeastern for 4th place. Anything that dings Colgate or helps Northeastern is likely to push Northeastern ahead.

One such thing: Ohio State is a non-conf opponent of Colgate. So change WCHA winner from Ohio State to Minnesota, and Northeastern passes Colgate for 4th.

Any comments on the game itself…
How do we right the ship to get the series W? Murphy likely in goal today, thought she would be the go-to this year, but no. Hope she stays in the cage and doesn’t get fancy behind the net. First goal will be important today. Think ‘Gate takes more penalties than other teams in the league. Princeton a good spoiler, look what they did to Qpac. Hope we live to see Sunday.

Another tense, exciting game today. Congrats to the women Raiders for a hard-fought win.

And a good-sized crowd, with lots off children! To me it seems like the crowd is louder throughout the game than for the men's games.

Let's all turn out tomorrow for the deciding game. If everyone brings a friend who is new to Colgate women's hockey we could fill the arena.

Interesting to see all ECAC matchups other than the Yale-Harvard series going to a deciding third game.

Not sure Colgate played like the 3rd ranked team…or that Princeton played like a 7th seed. Either team could have won. Hope we can wrap it up tomorrow. Won’t be easy.

Watched some of the replay afterward…that is some of the worst videography I have EVER seen. Blurry and zoomed-out x100. Frustrating, embarrassing, and inexcusable.

Yes!!! What a series. I thought this was our best game defensively. Other than Fillier's goal which was impossible to stop we marked her and Connors well which we always struggle to do given their talent. Princeton is good and especially when it counts, always play us tough. Congrats to them on a very competitive series.

Looks like we'll be playing the other CT team again as Q just beat SLU in OT...three's the charm....

Now we'll have to see who we get in NH...

You get Quinny.

Clarkson - Yale
Quinny - Colgate

Fun game today....we were all over them for most of the game ! Shots were more than 2-1 for us. The refs were awful, the first two periods they called one penalty. It didn't matter how many players got tripped, slashed or mauled, no calls. The Polish guy was brutal !

Pton goalie playing in her 3rd straight game. She did the Tigers proud. We came out of the gate on fire, shots 9-1, and they clank one in off the post. I nearly lost it. First Colgate goal, wow…thought for sure Hyland had it covered, but glad the ref swallowed his whistle.
Great series against a formidable foe. Hope we can turn the tables on Q, but they have a stingy goalie. Would be nice if Clarkson could do the same. Saints would have won today had it not been for committing the cardinal sin of hockey :-/

You're 100 percent correct.Trying to watch the game on Espn+ the last couple days is absolutely brutal. Watching the other games were 100 percent better and more professional.Q and Clarkson has way better production. They need to get a real camera operator and fix that view that actually tracks the play as well as a view that does not look like its. from the 400 section of Met life Stadium.

Dominant performance today, even though the score was not indicative of it. Your stars showed up and out shined Princeton's the last two games, especially when you needed it the most. Some exceptional players that do it all and play 200 foot game. I would have to say, I did not realize the ECAC has become a full contact WWE match where referees put the whistles away and mauling, interference and full contact with and without the puck is allowed. Going to be an epic final 4.

I'm wondering if the refs across all the conferences (at least the ECAC and WCHA) were sent a directive to swallow the whistles this weekend. We certainly saw it yesterday in Hamilton and in reading the OSU Fan Forum apparently what Gate Princeton saw was exactly what OSU and Bemidji State saw as well. No whistles anywhere. I personally like a physical game but with the sometimes vastly different sizes and weights of female players it can get dangerous very fast. There has to be a happy medium...

Some shout-outs to a number of players who don't get a lot of press but are making a hell of an impact this season. Sophs Katie Chan and Neena Brick have been fantastic. Their growth in confidence from Freshman year is why they are getting as much ice time as they do now when it counts. The same can be said for Gwen Eichfeld, who is the only non-senior or GR getting playing time on D in most of these big games (this could be a problem next year with so little experienced D talent). The same can be said for Frosh players Sara Stewart and Tessa Holk. Sara hasn't stopped since she scored the first goal of the season and has made her case with hustle and faceoffs. Tessa hasn't gotten the time of the others but her raw speed and in-your-face play will certainly make a difference in games and years to come. Add to that list Kas Betinol our UMD transfer who has been solid as a rock (thank you WCHO for both Kas and Dara). Finally, both our goalies who form arguably the best goalie tandem in NCAA hockey. They occasionally scare us to death with their play outside the crease (Osborne) or when holding the puck too long before passing it as she exhibited in Saturday's game (Murphy) but they obviously have Coach's complete confidence or he wouldn't play them back to back as he does regardless of opponent. The team also supports that strategy unquestionably...

These are the players who if they don't score the winning goal help keep the pressure on so others can. A gritty tough, dedicated bunch that any team would love to have. These are also the players who will be getting the press in the next few years as their confidence and hockey IQ continues to grow. The future is bright.

The other ECAC games had almost no penalties called, and there's supposed to be no bodychecking, there was checking all over in the Gate game three I saw. Why change the officiating in the playoffs, I don't get it ?

Would argue the refs blew the whistle just enough to give Colgate 5 ppg’s in the playoffs; the 5x5 goals were tough to come by. Game 3 was brutal; after ‘Gate’s first goal, Pton coach was obviously upset. My impression was no calls against them for equity. Glad that whistle stayed put before that goal!

Can’t make a prediction for Friday. Given their season sweep of Colgate, I’m nervous just thinking about it.
