Why do we need to increase taxes on gas and alcohol? Why those specifically?
Why can't we put a tax on stock transactions? A penny on every share traded. On companies who buy back their own stock to boost share price? Why can't we eliminate the income cutoff on which SS is taxed? Why don't companies get penalized for moving their headquarters overseas to avoid taxes, instead of rewarded? Taxes on compensation awarded as stock options rather than salary?
Why don't we cut the defense department's budget by $200 billion/year, and apply they to the deficit? Or put it in the SS "trust fund"?
I’m fine with all those revenue increases as long as you balance the books.
China, Russia, etc would certainly love to see us reduce defense spending. I think it would be a huge mistake and cost us in the long run.
Edit: We’d have a trillion dollars more this year with no national debt.
